View Full Version : Tomorrow - Senior Prom!

My boyfriend's Senior prom is tomorrow, so this is a very exciting time. (Well... tiring too as the academic year comes to a close.) I'm already at Vanderbilt University, and he's coming here this fall, so we've decided to match with Vanderbilt (black and gold) colors. (It was either that or like... coffee/latte colors, lol.) All signs point to there being absolutely no issues for us at the event, and there have even already been same-sex couples at his school prom before, so it should just be a fun event overall. I'll make sure to upload pictures later! We just have to pick up our outfits today and our flowers things which I'm not even going to try to spell tomorrow, then we go out to dinner with his friends and head out for the event.
For the record, this is my fourth prom. My first was with the last girl I ever dated (Junior year), and the second was with my boyfriend when he came to my Senior prom, and I was part of my schools first graduating class, so we set a precedent by that AND didn't have any incidents! Yay~ The third was with my best friend who is coincidentally bisexual-ish and had a crush on me when we first met without realize I was already dating a guy ^^;. Poor girl. Anyway, we're a crazy bunch (as in we should write novels about our insane lifes), but I'm just excited to get to go to this final event with him! (Well... minus his graduation.)

*Glare* First off, Sir, if someone had told me the first week or so, perhaps I wouldn't have the title of "poor girl" now, lol. It's your fault that you didn't tell me up front that you don't swing my way, buddy Ha ha, love you!
And what does bisexual-ish mean? Over a month with my girlfriend, I would think implies, at least, bisexuality, love. >_>
For the record, we should write a novel about our crazy love-quadrilateral group that we have. Between us, it's gotta have at least 15 sides. lol. *starts to write*
Anyway, have fun, be safe, and TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT LATER!!!

Yes, well, do remember that I wasn't exactly out of the closet yet, AND you assumed I was in love you with because I offered to drive you home. You didn't realize I just happened to be nice like that.

Well, you never could make up your mind (you always told me you didn't know or that you were just whatever you were), and you've honestly dated both with love involved.

Ok.

Will do.

(Edit: I'm the one in gold.) Here's a rather goofy one of a bunch of us:

Anyway, so... prom was really good. It was the best one I've been to so far in that it was the best put together and I danced the most I ever had. There was even this awesome chocolate fountain you dipped strawberries in to, and one of the guys in our group was elected as Prom King (cause he's so awesome). The only bad thing that happened was while my boyfriend and I were slow dancing somebody through empty water bottles at us from a distance (twice), so we weren't able to see who did it. We did report it later to the Principal and Vice Principal, though. Also, someone who is apparently a jerk in my bf classes and makes rude comments, not to my boyfriend but others, came up and said something to us; we couldn't hear it, but we called him back thinking he had just asked us something, but when he kept walking away when he could clearly hear us (this was when everyone was gathering to see the Prom King and Queen announced, directly affect us having bottles thrown at us), we knew he had said some derogatory. Bf is going to report that later. Anyway, aside from these things, Prom was great and everyone was very positive and excited about us. I even got to teach bf to Salsa, which was very fun, and it happened toward the end of the dance, so a lot of people had left (thsu we stood out more) and we were drawing a lot of attention as most couples who actually attempt a 'real' dance tend to do (versus the freestyle dancing or grinding most do).
Anyway... Again, prom was amazing, we had an awesome time with friends before prom at dinner at some club house in this millionaire subdivision-type place. (The girl sitting next to me and I shared a lobster, bacon, cheese pizza. $9 each when split!) It was really funny because we had some lady that was taking picture of us (via a mom's request) but trying to do so naturally, so she would kind of hide in places, so we ended up calling her the ninja photographer. Also, all the girls sat on one side of the table, and their dates on the other, so I took the girls side so bf could sit with his guy friends, and I got to try pretending to be a girl randomly, jokingly trying to 'fit in'. Also, the after-party for the prom was great too. So, overall it was a good experience, and if nothing else, from what my bf and I experienced, it should help him have more leverage for why the Day of Silence is needed at his high school and should be allowed when he makes that proposal with other teachers this week.

Way to go!
You guys look so great together! And it looks like you had a great time. :weee: And you coordinated your outfits beautifully!
Your radiance is telling the world that things are a'changing. I am so proud of you guys. And yes- a tad bit jealous: my generation didn't go to the prom. But I am damn proud that yours can and is.
You are standing - tall- and rightly so- on all the shoulders that came before you. And that is a wonderful and beautiful thing.
You two make a wonderful couple. And I wish you much love and happiness.

We did Gold and Black because those are Vanderbilt University colors, and I'm there now as a Freshman, and bf's coming this fall as an incoming Freshman. It was appropriate.
This was also, as I mentioned above, our second prom, and we didn't have any incidents at our first one, but this one was for a school with many very rich children, which means they statistically tend to be more conservative and apparently more likely to throw things at you... or at least stare (and oh my, did they ever).
Yes, we are proud and happy and THANKFUL to be able to do this

...at you two great looking guys. Head turners both of you! :D
And some of those people might just have had their world changed. ;)
That said, sometimes people can be jerks in the presence of Love.

For two reasons: would love to have had the opportunity to go to prom with my love; and would love to have gone to prom AT ALL. I was a total geek and not very socially graceful; did not ever get invited when I was in high school, and so excited for the two of you that you could then partake of the special event. Looks like it was fun, and you both look stunning. Sorry to hear about the water bottles- thankful for small things- at least they were empty, thank goodness!!!
Thank you for putting your selves out there, changing some attitudes and minds, hopefully, and being courageous (even if you don't know that you were being so!!!)....

Darn! For some reason, I can't view the pics! I will try another computer.
Tiger, I am proud of you for going with your Boyfriend to the prom. You are a couragous man. I do realize it is much easier in this generation. I have a "few" years on you!! When I was a high school senior, it would not have been as welcomed. 1983- wow, seems like light years away! Whew!!
But I also realize that homophobia still exists today in our high schools. The fact that you went with your boyfriend will cause people to dialogue and be confronted with the issue. Also, for you - you deserve to enjoy your prom just as much as any other heterosexual teenager.
God bless!

Absolutely. This is real activism. It is much easier for us to go to some far away city and stand behind a banner. Everyday local stuff like this is where the rubber meets the road. Good job! :applause:

:D Reading all your comments is really making me smile. For the record, U-dog, I'm the one in the gold with the 'normal hair' whereas my boyfriend has the spiker hair (now maybe my profile picture and posting icon picture will make more sense).
Yes, I know we certainly got people talking, especially when we danced together, lol. You could see the groups of people looking and chatting, etc. We walked around holding hands too, so that was rather fun.
Matthewspeed, it really struck me when you said...

...because my dad would made the point that we should hide it because being open about it makes everyone have to take a stand on the issue, bothering people in the process. I'd never thought about the fact that this happens in the positive way you mentioned it, though.

So... Tigers aren't cute enough for you huh? hmmm. we'll see. Otter is as Otter does I always say, but the first time you tear the the throat out of your prey and make a big bloody mess ... well... its back to TigerXero for you!
Well, seeing how much non-violence is becoming a part of my life, all the more reason to make the switch. Although... I apparently still like to smash things with rocks.

Dear Otter/Tiger/Eagle???. . . critter. . . .:p  :p:rolleyes:
You and your boyfriend are very beautiful men.
You have no idea -- NO idea -- how overjoyed I am that this was possible, that you attended prom together and had such a marvelous time (and almost completely unaccosted by stupidity.)
I prayed this possibility for the boys my age when I was little, but my generation (which is the one between yours and Daniel's or Udog's) too found going to prom with a same gender date unimaginable. We either took opposite sex friends or we didn't go. To see you doing this, well. . . looking at those pictures makes my heart feel that the world really isn't so bad.

You can call me Jody, or Otter... I assume most will call me Otter because of my username.
Yes, it's awesome to be able to go.
Yes, our country is changing for the better. Peace and unity ftw!
