So I'm finally reading Stranger At The Gate, and I must say that I'm very impressed with it. I admire Mel's courage. He made a lot of mistakes that made me shake my head, but at the same time applaud him for having the guts to share. I also have to say that my opinion of some of the clergymen that he writes about has changed. Pat Robertson still freaks me out, but I found Jerry Falwell almost endearing. I think it was those gooey snowballs and the practical jokes. I hope that someday when we have reconciled our differences that we can end the fighting and love each other as we are meant to do.

That book really helped me on the path to accept who I was. I loved it. Parts of it were really hard for me to read, as I could not even imagine going through some of the therapies Mel White tried.

Some of the parts were very hard for me to read, especially reading about self injury, because I've been there, and I'm still there, so seeing him hurt himself, or reading about young men who emasculated themselves brought up some intense emotions.
