The count-down begins.

I went to my prom last year with TigerXero in tow. He is, by far, my best friend, and suffered through a romantic evening with a girl (who still was crushing on him, little did he know...) for my sake, and so I wouldn't have to go alone. I do love him. He's a good friend.

This year, I'm taking my beautiful girlfriend. We're both very happy and excited about going together, and I can't wait to share my prom with her. ^_^ We are both also very nervous about this. My school is not known for being gay-friendly, and as far as I know, there has never (in the last 20 years that the school has been open) been an openly same sex couple attend prom. At least, not for the last 4 years. Even the most "out" of the people at the school don't take their boyfriends and girlfriends, they either don't attend or they go with friends of the other gender. My girlfriend and I were half joking that we're gonna get shot on prom night, or shortly there after.

I hate that it matters, but, I know it does. My friends and her friends are all very cool with our relationship. One of my closest friends tells me daily how happy she is for us, and how much she hopes we work out. But, it's the rest of the student body, the conservative group (which in the Bible belt is most of the school) that doesn't like it. I am scared of the repercussions, rumors, and name-calling that will surely ensue. She and I can't even walk though the halls to class without "dykes" and "carpet munchers" being coughed or yelled at us. We grin and bear it... the year is almost over, but it's still hard on a daily basis... through it all, it's not enough to make us hide our relationship.

Please pray for us. I want this to be a special prom, and I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'm very nervous about the evening.

Thank you for all your prayers and support.

You shall have a wonderful time... as long as your parents continue thinking she's just coming as a friend ^^. Oh, and of course, as long as you are with friends. Friends = buffer zone for those with malicious intentions. Also, lesbians don't seem to be as threatening to the men as gay guys do, so maybe you'll luck out. I don't really know you school like you do, so good luck, of course.

Prom is Saturday the 19th. We are going with two of our best friends, a straight couple that TigerXero and I went with last year. We plan to avoid the groups that will be the most hateful, but the ballroom is small, as is the boat...so, we plan to just to our best to keep surrounded by our friends and those who are supportive. Thank you all again for your support.

With love,
Tink

I am with Udog: make sure that you are with friends, more than a couple if possible, and keep yourselves safe and protected. That is the main focus; I think it is awesome that you are going, and I envy taking my honey to a prom (although we are both old ladies so they probably wouldn't let us in- LOL); enjoy it and keep us posted.....
