The count-down begins.
I went to my prom last year with TigerXero in tow. He is, by far, my best friend, and suffered through a romantic evening with a girl (who still was crushing on him, little did he know...) for my sake, and so I wouldn't have to go alone. I do love him. He's a good friend.
This year, I'm taking my beautiful girlfriend. We're both very happy and excited about going together, and I can't wait to share my prom with her. ^_^ We are both also very nervous about this. My school is not known for being gay-friendly, and as far as I know, there has never (in the last 20 years that the school has been open) been an openly same sex couple attend prom. At least, not for the last 4 years. Even the most "out" of the people at the school don't take their boyfriends and girlfriends, they either don't attend or they go with friends of the other gender. My girlfriend and I were half joking that we're gonna get shot on prom night, or shortly there after.
I hate that it matters, but, I know it does. My friends and her friends are all very cool with our relationship. One of my closest friends tells me daily how happy she is for us, and how much she hopes we work out. But, it's the rest of the student body, the conservative group (which in the Bible belt is most of the school) that doesn't like it. I am scared of the repercussions, rumors, and name-calling that will surely ensue. She and I can't even walk though the halls to class without "dykes" and "carpet munchers" being coughed or yelled at us. We grin and bear it... the year is almost over, but it's still hard on a daily basis... through it all, it's not enough to make us hide our relationship.
Please pray for us. I want this to be a special prom, and I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'm very nervous about the evening.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
