Lately I feel like I've been running across a lot of songs that are very interesting... activisim as music in a way...
I thought I'd share what I've found, I'd love to know what you think of the idea, the songs and to listen to others if any of you know of some...
Everlast has a lot and John Mayer has a couple I think....

John Mayer has some great tunes that I would consider Activist with a capital A; "Waiting on the world to change"; "Vultures"; also Melissa Etheridge in a lot of her stuff; also Switchfoot, don't know much about Everclear; Pearl Jam; a lot of bands out there and the message comes through so clear for me. And, music has always been a huge inspiration to me and for me, so it makes sense that the message would not be lost on me in that format.....

I thought of this one when reading the 'Death' thread...
Letters Home from Garden of Stone -- Everlast

What it's Like -- Everlast

This one most of you have probably heard before, I've heard it playing at Hollywood video and at an Obama rally (interesting since this guy like Ron Paul, but oh well)
Waiting on the World to Change -- John Mayer
uPOBMzMTP4U
Belief -- John Mayer

Any songs will do, but I'm kind of thinking of music that's more 'popular' today, I mean we could find plently if we went searching for Beatles songs... but I'm kind of curious about newer stuff.

I'd love to be both... but as far as I can tell, I have no musical talent. :o

That's okay. Having two big pursuits going on in life simultaneously is a bit overwhelming at times.

Yeah... it always sounds like you have a lot going on...
So, are there any songs that you can think of that fit here?

You would think so, wouldn't you? But, no. I've never had any songs from my experience come to mind relating to activism.
I might be able to link to some other people's ideas though. If I search for a while.

Well, activism may not be the best word to describe what I think of them... but I don't know. I think it's still interesting to see what people come up with.

Never mind. I tried searching for a thread that I know was out there a year or two ago but after about 10 pages it still did not come up, so never mind.

there is a strong tradition in music in which songs move people to activism. It goes the whole way back to the 1930's (or before) with songs reacting to the Great Depression (Woody Guthrie) and continuing into the 60's and 70's with songs about Viet Nam and Civil Rights by the likes of Peter Paul and Mary, and Bob Dylan.

I really like the Flobots, a semi-rap group out of denver. They have very radical antiwar comments in their songs, and i really like there music. Their song Handlbars is #1 requested for like the last 10 weeks.
