Hello, my name is Sven.I am a 37 yr. old gay man living in Central New York.
I am new to Soulforce, and I never realized there was such a program, until I went to an Equal Marriage Forumn in Utica, NY. I was really impressed by the presenters and I wanted to cotribute to their cause. I deffinantly am for a Equal Marriage Bill that gives all of New York State's LGBT community the Right to Marry each other, making New York State the second state that offers marriage to the LGBT people, behind Massachusetts. I hope the Bill will pass the Senate, it has already passed the House.
I am sorry to everyone for the public service announcement, I need to keep to the subject and introduce myself. Like I said my name is Sven I am fairly new at accepting myself as gay (I came out to my mother March 2006), and I am very new at being an activist. It took me about a year to learn about myself and be happy of who I am. I AM PROUD OF BEING GAY! FINALLY!!! I now have something to fight for, and that is Equal rights for the LGBT community in which I am apart of. It seemed so natural to be an activist after accepting that, I guess it was because of years of feeling ashamed, abandoned, ignored, and being dishonest with myself and others, I NEVER WANT TO BE PREJUDGED AND DENIED RIGHTS ANYMORE. I am who I am, and I am finally proud of that.
I was also judged in the church about my sexuality, first at my own church and then at my mother's. I was going to a Luthern church in Pennsylvania and actually like going, but then the Church had a new Pastor and things changed, he ws then lecturing on the evils of a sinful life which also included Homosexual acts, I tryed to talk to the pastor and the discussion only led him saying "as a child of God, you are forgivin of your your sins as long as you don't continue doing the homosexual acts", so I left that church and didn't go to church for a long time. Then my mother started to go to church after getting remarried and she went to a Baptist Church and one of the times she and her new husband had me go to their pastor to get consuling by the pastor and all he do quote scriptures on the evils of homosexuality. so again, I left church. After finnally coming out, I now am a Unitarian Universalist member, I aslo practice Wicca. I finally feel at home. the UU church has finally gave me the acceptance I was looking for.

My girlfriend is Wiccan and I'm also a Unitarian Universalist! It offers the acceptance everyone needs and I feel right at home with it.

Welcome to Soulforce. You'll enjoy it here. :);)

Hi Sven,

Welcome to the forums. Please tell us more about yourself and join in the discussions here.

I guess it was because of years of feeling ashamed, abandoned, ignored, and being dishonest with myself and others, I NEVER WANT TO BE PREJUDGED AND DENIED RIGHTS ANYMORE. I am who I am, and I am finally proud of that.
I especially appreciate this statement. It also took me years to come to this same place. (I'm about 10 years older than you; I guess I'm a slow learner.) I have found it a great freedom to be set free from dishonesty and guilt.

I hope you feel at home here.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

Sven, hello! Congratulations on accepting yourself! It's truly a huge accomplishment, and for me has been incremental over the last year. I and so many others here can relate to your feelings about church. There are times I want to flip Christianity the bird and go pagan or atheist... I do share your interest in paganism, I have good friends who are pagan... we have some on this forum as well. Then again, this forum has many wonderful nonjudgmental Christians.

Welcome and best wishes!!

Welcome Sven! You've made a great start, sharing how you found Soulforce and what's been happening in your life over the past few years. i don't mind the 'public service announcement' at all - i like it just fine when someone opens up and starts telling us about themselves.

Please jump into the current discussions, or just look around and read the threads - whatever you're comfortable with. You are very welcome here. :)

I have to tell you, my first boy crush ever was on a boy named Sven, and we were ten years old at the time. Now, unless Sven was a girl, I wouldn't be interested.....

What a journey you have had so far!!! I applaud your desire and willingness to live your life proudly and fully; it takes a lot of work on our parts, but it is always so worth it to feel terrific about who we are, just as God made us. I am one of the nice Christians around here, but have respect for whatever religious observances and/or spiritual connections that keep us centered and help us to be whole. I belong to a pretty accepting Methodist church here in PA, but we are losing our pastor in July, and I fear for who will come next....

Anyway, check us out, look around, and welcome to our beloved forums.
