When I first saw the photos, I thought it was a spoof. They look so ... 1950s, somehow. I know quite a few gay married couples here in Massachusetts, but none of them look quite like these laddies. ;) :p The rest of us are just a little rougher around the edges, I guess. :eek: :lol:

Well you guys need to plan one. Ellie and I are getting hitched in August. In lieu of a 'real' honeymoon, we are packing up the kids and going to Six Flags Great America for the weekend. I do so love rollercoasters.

And thought the pics were cute, but the text made me feel.....I don't know how to say it: odd. It's as though 20 year old something's are doing what straight 20 year old something's are doing. Is that a good thing? A bad thing? A non-issue? Perhaps I think too much about these things. I'm glad that young gay men are getting married...really I am. So what is my problem......I can't put my finger on it yet....but will think about this some more.

I can say though- I feel like there was a disconnect between the photos and the article itself. It's as though the 50's was served up to the reader visually, but the article didn't entirely reflect that. As if there were two different messages being given.

Is that going back to go forward? I really don't know. But it makes me wonder.

Mr. D and I had the same odd feeling, Daniel. I decided to post the article here despite that because I felt like it was something that many here might not see and was, at least generally, positive.

That said, my (partly) wizened, cynical heart acknowledged that I don't really feel it is wise to marry so young, regardless of whether you're gay or straight.

So, ultimately, I do think it is fair to ask if the freedom to make mistakes -- just like straight people -- is, in fact, a step forward. I guess I would argue it is, but it's a bittersweet victory.

And I absolutely agree that the 50's-esque campiness -- especially of the Boston lads -- resulted in some serious eye-rolling from yours truly. :cool::D:rolleyes:

I heard some comments on this article on a gay radio station that I listen to online. The bothersome aspect of this article seems to be the way in which they use the 50's gender roles, dice them up between the guys, and present them as being "normal" as the dj pointed out, we are not the "norm" and don't need to pretend that our relationships are "just like" everyone else's and I think I'd have to agree with that. I'm getting married, but my marriage isn't going to look like any other hetero union.
