So, techies, what did the forum upgrade do for us? What new toys do we have now?

I noticed there's some stuff about profile visits and official 'friends.' Took a look around and clicked on Danny's profile as an example and saw a little message that said "Daniel has not made any friends yet." :p:lol::lol: I'm fairly sure that's not literally the case, but it did make me laugh.

And as for myself, apparently I have not made any friends yet, either. :(:(:( :'(

So - what happens when we do? Whadda we get? Are there prizes?
:p:lol:

I haven't taken a close look at all the new stuff in the upgrade yet. We had the ability to mark members as friends before. As a matter of fact, Daniel was the only friend on my list. When I looked on my profile, the upgrade had wiped that away. But, as I clicked on the "update friends" button, he showed up but wasn't marked. I simply had to add him again.

who else wants to be my friend? not that I'm desperate, I just need a regular diet of affirmation. :(

I was going nuts last night thinking I'd picked up a virus. I finally put two and two and two and two together though, ugh.

BTW, while we're at it, could we get one of those strike-through buttons?

You know, like when you want to say something, but it's inappropriate, so it appears with a line through it, so technically you get to say it anyway...

Tee hee! You guys are hilarious! Love you.

Okay, I am totally up for the 'friends' thing - but- what's it gonna DO? When we had "buddy lists" before, what it did was put a + next to your friend's name. Okay, like, I was gonna forget who my friends were so I needed a little + in order to recognize them??
Do we get special balloons or somethin' for making these new lists & such? :magic:

Keltic, I will totally be your friend. Sign me up, if you haven't already. :)

Yeah, we use vBulletin forum software and they recently released their 3.7 upgrade. Usually the forums are down only the amount of time it takes to upload all the new files. This time, though, the new version required some custom template changes to integrate it into the Soulforce site. Hopefully everything is back in working order now (I just fixed the YouTube/Google video buttons).

If you are interested, you can read about new features at this link (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=268833).

I hadn't intended to enable the friends or social groups option, so those are now disabled. A neat new feature, however, is the photo albums on your user profile pages.

Emproph, I'll see about adding the ability to strikeout text. I've seen that on some blogs and, as long as it is used in moderation, it can be fun and also effective!

ohhhh, that explains that. I had gone through and asked a gazillion people to be on my friends list...and didn't hear back from anyone :lol:. okay, y'all are off the hook.

Next to the Google "G" button is one that looks like ABC.

That's the one

That’s been my exact thought every time I‘ve glanced at it the “buddy list.” What is that list even for, isn't it redundant? :D

As you said, It can be fun and also effective, I love using it for that reason. But there have been times I’ve had to wrest myself away from using it. For the sake of the message, I just couldn’t get it to work.

Then there have been times where I haven’t had the option, and I’ve thought, hey, I’ve worked my way around this before, I can make up for it with italics, or bold, or caps, etc., but nope, and to my chagrin, only the I’m thinking this but not saying it strikethrough would do.

I'm friendless once again :'(
At least you're not remember~who~your~friends~are~less (http://www.soulforce.org/forums/showthread.php?p=55308#post55308). ;)

well it took long enough Hooray!

Hooray! My friend says I’m “off the hook.”

AHH!!!! That only took me ten fifteen minutes to find.

Hooray! It only took you a lifetime of frustration fifteen minutes to find.

Jeez!

I had friends and now I don't? That's what I get for not being here quite so much the last few weeks.

Fooey!

Bring the friends back........

Hey! I missed out on all that High School clique stuff!

So the answer to Zerbie's question: "What did the upgrade do for us?" is.... photo albums and strikethrough capability? Woohoo!!! :weee:

What I wish for from forum software more than anything else is the ability to include more than 20 :) smileys per post.

How many times I have had to edit down the quantity - leaving me with the daunting task of choosing which expressions could most easily be dispensed with while still conveying the emotional quality of the intended message. When will we be able to use more smileys? 30 would be a good number. 35 or 40 perhaps best.
