Hi,
My name is John Dews. I'm 52 and an Episcopal priest in Lexington Kentucky. I have always been "out" to my bishop, congregation, etc. I just saw the film "The Bible Tells Me So" and thought i would check out soulforce. Always nice to make new friends.
BTW just before the movie started I realized that the elderly couple sitting next to me were Bishop Gene Robinson's parents. Small world huh?

Wow, John, that's amazing.
So, Gene's parents live in Kentucky, huh? I thought they were from New Hampshire. So, did you talk to them? Did you tell them that they have a wonderful son?

So grateful for pastors and clergy that are willing to take that big risk to be out, and to celebrate who they are.
Gene's parents are so wonderful, at least the portrayal in the movie. I am glad for him that they are so supportive. Neat to have seen them!!!
Anyway, enjoy your stay around here, we are a pretty friendly bunch.....
Peace. :love::love:

Hi there, Father John (although I'll call you John from here on out, if that is okay),
I am one of the other "people of the cloth" on Soulforce, and always welcome the presence of other enlightened clergy. Bless you in your continued work and efforts.
I am PCUSA and a straight ally - well, straight might be debatable, as I am quite bent really. My wife was "discontinued" as a minister by the UMC for her advocacy for full inclusion. We have several more clergy types - gay, straight and everything in between (which is where most of us fit anyway) running around here who will, hopefully, make you feel very welcome.
Blessings to you, Andy

Hey, my husband and I were at the Kentucky Theater too! Were you at the 5:30 or 7:30pm showing? Bishop Robinson's parents were at both.
Also, I have to smile sometimes at stereotypes. I was getting popcorn and standing behind a woman with a huge UPS symbol on the back of her brown jacket. What would the world do without LGBT people?

Jamie,
You asked the question, "What would the world do without gay people?" Well, it really is very simple, we would all be George Bush clones and live very boring lives.
On a totally different topic- Hi Father John, Welcome to Soulforce. I hope you enjoy yourself on this forum. Looking forward to hearing from you often. God bless you.:)

Die. :'(
I would.
Anyway, there will never be a world without GLBT people, so no worries there.
