Those of you with good memories may remember a plea for prayer in March concerning a voluntary retirement/buyout offer by my employer. Now that it is public, I can post the results of that process here.
I have been accepted for the buyout. It includes a severance package of a year's pay and a year's medical coverage, plus a 10 percent bonus. That allows me to get within a few months of full Social Security benefits and several months past when I reach full company pension benefits.
I have spent 39 years with this employer, under three different owners. I have been in my present position for nearly 20 of those years. It's been time for a change for a long time, but opportunity did not seem forthcoming until this buyout was announced. It's sad, in a way, that my employer finds me too expensive to keep around, but it is gratifying that I can leave at the top of my game and under such good terms.
My boss has proposed a final date around Labor Day so that I can help him plan the transition to new leadership. When I finally retire I have many options: work part-time in my field, volunteer for many worthy causes that beckon, or see if I have that book in my soul that I have always thought I had. I'm treating it all as a new adventure. Thanks for your ongoing prayers. Continued support from you all is humbly requested.
