The Missouri Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate a Sunday morning (May 11) tour bus accident that claimed the life of gospel music legend Joyce "Dottie" Rambo, 74, of Nashville. Six other people in the bus, including her manager, were injured when the 1997 Prevost bus crashed into a guard rail and an embankment around 2:20 a.m. on Interstate 44 near Mount Vernon, Mo. At the time of the accident, the singer-songwriter was traveling to a Mother's Day performance at a church in North Richland Hills, Texas.
send up your prayers folks. remember that Dottie is the mother of one of our allies, Reba Rambo.

Oh Wow! How awful! My prayers are with Reba and her family, and with Dottie's husband, Buck. Thanks for posting this...

Keltic,
I remember watching Dottie Rambo on tv when I used to watch a lot of Christian television. She was on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) quite often. I always liked her. Was she "gay friendly?" I always liked her spunk. She had great faith. My prayers are with her family/friends.

Ironic, how we lost two allies in a short time in Dottie Rambo and Tammy Faye.

Oh Brian, you are so right. Tammy Faye was a great ally and friend. I don't know if Dottie was or not. I know her daughter, Reba, and Reba's husband, Dony McGuire, had become very welcoming to the glbt community in recent years. I don't know whether or not Dottie ever came on board with that viewpoint. Surely, Reba told her, but who knows?

Was Dottie our allie as Tammy Faye was? I had not realized that Reba Rambo was supportive of GLTB persons.

Yes, she and her husband Dony McGuire came to sing at the Glory Tabernacle about 2 years ago for their Evangelistic Conference in September, I think. Glory Tab is pastored by Rev. Sandy Turnbull and her partner Janet Robertson and is located in Long Beach, CA.

Forgive me for my ignorance. Is Dony McGuire Reba's husband? I am confused! (that can happen easily with me!) I wanted to know if Dottie was gay friendly or not. I always liked her.
Thanx!

Reba's husband is Dony. Dottie was married to Buck Rambo and they sang bluegrass/southern gospel for years. When I saw Reba at the conference in Long Beach, I was simply shocked. I couldn't believe she was a supporter of us. She and Dony explained that a friend of theirs came out to them and they really began to soul search what God's Word says and they came to the conclusion, separately, that God loves gay people and wanted them to have a place in the Christian community. The last night of the conference, both of them, invited every pastor that was at the conference from all over the US to come sit on stage. After they were assembled there, 14 or 15 in all, they instructed them to take their shoes off and proceeded to wash their feet. Dony and Reba wept as they washed the feet of 15 gay or lesbian pastors, and apologized for years of persecution and judgment of gays and lesbians and it was very moving and poignant.
I don't know if Dottie, her mother, shared her opinion or not, but it is sad nonetheless since it was on Mother's Day. Reba was her only child to my knowledge.

Pnggrad,
Thank you for your response. What an awsome thing Reba and Dony did by washing the feet of those pastors. I have been in a foot washing ceremony and it is a humbling experience. They are trulely people of God. I would love to see them in concert. I wonder if they have been shunned by other evangalists over the years for their stance. God bless them!!
