Hello all,
My wife and I went out to eat Wednesday and went to the boat slip to go boating for a little while. I was absolutely fine when all of a sudden, I got stomach cramps and went to the bathroom. It came out both ends is as delicately as I can put it. Anyway, I must have done both for about an hour and finally an ambulance was called while my poor wife was busy trying to put the boat back in the storage facility. Meanwhile I was christening the trees outside. The ambulance took me to the ER at the local hospital and diagnosed me with either a virus or food poisoning. Spent 4 days there going stir crazy and not feeling well. Finally I am home and trying to eat. Please pray for fast healing and back to normal soon. Tired of being sick.:sick::sick:

Well I do feel better, but had a terrific headache last night, and it wouldn't let me sleep. I think it is caffeine withdrawal. Gone now, but OMG last night was bad...Thanks for the well wishes and hope it never happens to you.

Omigosh, PNG, that's AWFUL!!! Food poisoning (which that sounds like) is a very serious health threat. (I have never heard of such a severe virus, do they really exist? Wow - that's terrifying!)
I know how bad it can be. Some years back I had a food poisoning in which I was unable to tolerate anything, ultimately not even water, for about 4 or 5 days. I will do y'all a favor and not mention what was coming out of where. I lost something like 20 pounds in 5 days. By the time I went to the doctor, he said I "should have" died.
Take your time getting back to activities. Your body will need time to repair. This was a big deal.
Be well honey!!!

Thanks Zerb!!! My wife is hounding me to take it easy, but I spent 4 days holed up in a hospital having to lug around a IV pole that pumping everything known to man into me. I was more than ready to get back to the land of the living. I feel 20 times better than I did yestarday and just hearing that I could go home was a godsend. I slept good and am taking it easy on the diet and we didn't go to church today. I didn't want the stress of getting up and getting dressed and all that...Most times I don't mind it, just not after this episode.
They never really said if it was food poisoning or not. It was either that or some type of virus that is going around. They said a lot of people had come in with it, so evidently it was my turn. No thanks! I don't ever wanna do that again.

I haven't had anything like that since I was a kid, and that was over in a day. Yours sounds much more serious. Thank God that you had a hospital, and a loving woman to take care of you. I'm sure that the rest of us will keep you in our prayers. We all hope to keep hearing from you in this forum.
Peace, Love, and a much happier tummy, Bruce Chris

Oh how awful! Drink LOTS of fluids, and rest. Try Jello water, that's Jello(a yummy flavor) that you add warm water to instead of the cold water and leave it on the counter, it won't gell up and it replaces sugars and salts(electrolites). My mom gave me a tons of that when I had the flu and was vomiting. It helps.

Adding to Zerbie's gut feel about salmonella is this article:

You seem to be in the right area.

It came on so suddenly I just don't know if it was salmonella poisoning or not. I asked if they had had a lot of people with this stuff in the hospital and they said yes and when I got back to school, the nurse told me it was a virus going around. It could have been salmonella but given the time frame, I don't think it was...But it sure made me examine my tomatoes more closely and wash them. Scary stuff...Thanks Zerb for thinking of me.

Yeah a kid gave me two tomatoes from her grandmother's garden and I promptly said "thanks" and when she turned I threw them away. No thanks! I had enough of being sick to last me a lifetime!

Glad you are feeling better. I have had food poisening a couple of times. It is awful! I have heard that we most likely get food poisening more than we realize. Have you ever eaten out at a restaurant and had a bit of diarreah afterwords? Sorry to be so graphic! We usually say that the food did not agree with us, when actually it was probably a minor case of food poisening.
But getting it severly can be an awful experience, let alone dangerous. Keep us posted. I'm sure you are over the worse part now!

Go slow and build your strength back. It's more improtant that you heal and be refreshed.

Thanks Zerb and Gennee, I appreciate it. It has been a week now and I am feeling back to normal and NEVER want to go thru that again. That was strictly miserable. My wife had it a few months ago and that was not fun. She was sick for the whole week. Poor baby! One doctor suspected she might have appendicitis. Turns out it wasn't, thank God. Well, it got me off caffeine for sure and being off the stuff is kicking my butt. I never want that blasted headache again.

Recovered in only a week! That's wonderful!! :):):)
Fwiw - I just read that they do NOT suspect homegrown tomatos, cherry tomatos, or tomatos sold with the vine still attached.
I got brave and bought AND ate some vine-attached tomatos today.
But then I read that the outbreaks are spreading and I think I've changed my mind about eating tomatos as long as I'm in the US. Will wait a while. The spinach thing from a few years ago passed. This will, too.
Anyway, PNG - just keep being careful with your energy for a little while longer. Wiping out the digestive system is dangerous, and that's what your harrowing episode did.

This is officially my 1000thpost!!!!:weee::weee::weee:
Anyway, I will take it easy, but I swear my appetite has returned with a vengeance. Plus I am tired now that I am off caffeine. I never realized how much of an effect it actually had on me.

Thanks Zerb!!! I just ate some shrimp and told my wife that I had posted 1000 times on Soulforce and she just rolled her eyes. She said, "What on earth do you talk about on that forum? and I said, "Oh anything and everything!!" So this is my 1001st post. Yeah!!!!
