Hey friends.

I work for Macy's Inc. Macy's has been ally for the GLBT community for some time. I work at the central credit office in Cincinnati. For the first time, myself and others within our company will be representing Macy's by marching in the Cincinnati Gay Pride parade on June 15. Macy's has been involved in gay pride events across the country, but our region has been slow to act. This area is very conservative.

But this year, finally, Macy's will be showing it's face at our pride event. We will be marching and will have our own booth at the festival. I feel honored to work for a company that truely embraces diversity. The company has it's issues, but supporting the GLBT community shows Macy's committment to being an inclusive corporation. Any discriminitory actions or words towards GLBT persons is not tolerated at Macy's and one can loose his/her job for such behavior.

I just wanted to give a positive report friends.

Blessings.

-Matthew :)

I've known Macy's has been our ally, but didn't realize they are really getting involved in Pride events. That is SO cool! We do most of our clothes shopping at Macy's, partly because they have good clothes at decent prices (sales only people!), and partly because they have a great score on HRC's company index.

Glad to see they are even having a booth at Pride! :D:love:

Oh, that's good. I was just at Macy's today and thought, should I stop shopping there? Then I saw that the post was positive. That's good news. I am glad for corporations supporting equality and treating their employees fairly.

This will be my first year marching in the Cincinnati Pride parade too; I'll send happy thoughts in the direction of Macy's. Maybe I'll even stop in and look at clothes at some point; it's been a while.

Wow! Maybe for Gay Pride Macy's will bring out their giant parade balloon of Woody Woodpecker. That thing is huge.

Somehow I don't think woodpeckers and gay pride make a good combination. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

ummm, matthew, I need to stop in at Macy's and pay my partner's bill. can you give me a few days grace period? ;) will it help if I flirt with you?

on a more serious note, last November, we went to the Macy's in downtown Pittsburgh for a fashion show that was sponsored by Out magazine. The fact that Macy's had teamed up with Out really impressed me. It told me that Macy's wants my business.
It's only been the past few years that Macy's has been in our area, they took over my favorite dept store, Kaufmann's which was a Pittsburgh landmark. The Kaufmann family was well loved in this area, but also known for being rather "Bohemian" (back in the 1920'-30's) They are the patrons who commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build Fallingwater. I worked as a guide for over 10 years at Fallingwater, and I felt such a loyalty to Kaufmanns, that I had trouble with Macy's acquiring the store. All of that seems to ramble, and in the end makes even less sense considering Mr. Kaufmann sold the store to the May company in the 1940's. Perhaps it was the idea of losing the name of the store that hurt the most. The good news is that because of Macy's desire for the lgbt business, I am happy to shop there.

This is positive news, Matthew. I will keep the Cincinnati Pride march in my mind. I happy that many companies are seeing the light.

Keltic,

First of all, I'm a sucker for flirting, I am a flirt myself! But harmless - you are married! Full respect given to you! :)

Yes, Macy's took over Kaufmann's and all other May stores. We received many concerns about the take over. Marshall Fields took over our beloved Hudson's in Detroit, then Macy's bought Marshall Fields. I understand what it means to have a tradition come to an end. But I do have to say that Macy's has done a good job with improving customer service and becoming a beacon for GLBT support. It feels good to know you are protected. There are a couple of homophobic employees that I work with and it feels so good to be able to talk about GLBT issues knowing that our discrimination clause will protect me from any anti-gay slurs in the workplace.

By the way Keltic, get that payment in!! :)

Macy's is cool. Will Kris Kringle be in the parade like he was in miracle on 34th St.?

Yes, in fact, Kris kringle has come out as a cross dresser. He will be in his red fishnet stockings, red leather patent six inch heels and a cute red mini skirt with white trim. His hormones are really kicking in!!

Keltic,
We may be old married folks, (even though Aug. 9 is the big date, umm, you have been acting married for a long time!), we ain't dead. Just because I done bought my candy don't mean I can't look at the candy store! Seriously, I love my wife, but there is just too much eye candy out there to not just LOOK.
