I attended the second annual transgender health fair at the local center on Wednesday. I said to my wife that I will probably see a few people that know. I saw one person I never expected to see.

Fran is a volunteer with the same organization that I discussed about earlier. She didn't recognize me because she's never seen me dressed but recognized her. Fran and I got to talking and I mentioned who I was. She was so surprised because she didn't know that I was trans. Fran has been a post op transsexual for over two decades. There is another woman at the same organization that is butch lesbian. It sure is a small world. It's wonderful because we can relate in more ways than the work we do. Someday I would love to have lunch with these ladies.

I also learned that my son's g/f has a cousin who wears women's clothing and is gay. My wearing women's clothes doesn't bother her. I shared more with my wife about transgender and what it means. I told her about the health fair and that opened up quite a conversation. I expressed my desire to work for transgender rights and be more involved with transgender issues.

I'm finding more trans sisters everywhere. This has been a wonderful week having discovered all the aforementioned events. Actually, the wonderful week began Sunday when I declared myself a transgender woman. Yes, I've known that all this time, I just want to make public something I did in private. Every few months or so I cross a threshhold and this was another one.

Wow! It's exciting to cross those threshholds - I know how excited I am every time I take a new step that intimidated or scared or just puzzled me for a while. Like breaking the sound barrier.

Yes, it is a small world. Thank goodness for those wonderful few who always strive to make the world better. Thanks to them, it is.

Besides meeting other persons who can identify with your life experience and circumstance, it also helps you to build your own, new support network of sorts. I am so glad for you that you are having these loving experiences, and even more open dialogue with your wife about what is happening with you. You are certainly blessed!!! Peace, Vanessa
