I hope everyone is doing well. I am new to soulforce. I am an Ordained United Methodist Pastor on leave of absence (not serving a church) as I make the transition from pastor to therapist. I work at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and love it. I really believe in soulforce and look forward to supporting and learning about it.

I am a therapist at the University Counseling Center. I am also the AOD (Alcohol and Other Drug) coordinator. I work with the Athletic department to ensure they are compliant with NCAA Drug mandates. I also work with atheletes that fail drug screens and might have possible addiction issues.

Hiya Steven,

Welcome ,

There are some really nifty people here. Some people ring and run, others stick around and join in. I hope you will be part of the "others." Then you will discover there are some amazing people here.

I look forward to getting to know you, please express your self on the various threads that may tickle (or not) your fancy, and let us know who you are. :)

hey doc,

I think I have a problem with the people I hang out with. I mean, I feel like I'm missing out if I'm not with them even for a couple of hours. do you think I might have an addiction problem? Generally, they are good people, but I fear they are taking over my real life. you see, it's this group of people online, and you know what a bunch of whackos hang out in online forums......

Keltic63,

"addiction" is a charged word. We throw it around like we do the word "love". When I'm working with someone who I think might have a dependency problem. BTW, the DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) does not use the word "addiction", but I digress, I consider several things: 1) is the behavior interfereing with day to day relationships? 2) is the behavior causing legal problems? 3) is the behavior causing occupational problems? 4) is the behavior causing financial problems?
That being said, we are all created to need/desire intimacy. Intimacy involves vulnerability, deep personal sharing, and mutual understanding. Do you have that in your life outside of the online forums? If not, you might want to explore why. Your behavior may be complusive, but not addictive.
Grace and Peace,
Steve:)

That's good to hear! my therapist told me I had some OCD, but it wasn't bad enough to address it.

Still, these people here at soulforce forums, I miss them when I can't get online! :D:love:

Hey Keltic

"Wackos?" Thats ok, I have been called worse. Most people that know me will testify to my "wackiosim." I know, no such word, but that is a good example that I am just not right!

Come and read our forums, and offer us your knowledge and opinions.

Now, lets see here, if I diagnose myself as being a Whacko, N.O.S., (and I assume that the term has a multi-digit DSM code somewhere), doesn't that mean that I am practicing medicine without a license? Now that could get me into a whole lot more trouble than admitting to being a Ho-Mo-SEX-u-Al.

On the other hand, if I DON'T admit to being a "whacko', then I must be in denial, and there MUST be a twelve-step group out there, somewhere. Whacko's, Anonymous, I would guess.

This would probably involve getting the services of someone like you. I gotta check my medical insurance here, I'm not sure how many visits I'm covered for. This is beginning to sound messy, complicated, and expensive. Maybe I should just have a drink, or engage in some anonymous sex, much less stressful.

Hey Steve, all psychobabble aside, welcome.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

I am so glad you have joined us here at Soulforce. As you may have noticed, in checking around, having someone here with intelligence and a sense of humor would be most helpful. We tend to be short on one and unfortunately well endowed with the other.

As for our dear Keltic (also a Steve), well we let him have the "moderator" title out of kindness and our collective good heart. The one thing that makes it easier is that, online, we do not see the perpetual facial tics or witness his neurotic, obsessive, ummm, expressive (yeah, that's it) - expressive finger movements.

Be well, and let us get to know you. It would be easier to know you, however, if you could post your address (with maps preferably) and details of any shrubbery or landscaping structures behind which we could hide when we visit.

Now, let me tell you a little about myself. You don't mind if I lay down on your couch, do you? I didn't think so. Anyway, after I was abducted by aliens ....
