Well, Michigan has now added to the reasons why its one of the worst states to live in.
Hate crimes towards LGBT community is up 157%. The highest is in the county I live in.
A young girl in Highschool kissed her girlfriend in the hall. The following week two STRAIGHT girls jumped her and beat her up, no one even stopped it until the teacher got there and made them stop. Someone was set up to tape it on their cellphone and they released it to UTUBE. I have not looked at it yet and wouldn't know how to attach it here, but please see if you can find it yoursleves.
The athorities in Mi only have to REPORT hate crimes, they do not have to prosecute. They are only going to press charges of assault and try them as minors. The whole thing makes me angry and want to vomit. The Triangle foundation is involved but I doubt it will be able to do much.
I wonder when I became less than human and not worthy of protection. I wonder why it's ok to beat me up if I kiss my wife but why Joe Blow can kiss his and it's 'cute'.
Just had to vent:mad:

Tyme,
That is simply reprehensible behavior from a civilized society. Minnesota ought to hang their head in utter shame because of this. Lambda Legal ought to sue the pants off that school for allowing it.

I remember reading about this. Sad thing is that I don't live too far away from there. It's sick and wrong what kids do to each other.

I am from Detroit. I am embarrassed of my home state. Detroit is not as conservative as the rest of the state. Detroit was one of the first city governments in the nation to make it illegal to discriminate against GLBT persons as city employees, but the rest of the state has shown it's anti-gay face.
Governer Jennifer Granholm supports the GLBT community, but the rest of the political force in that state is strongly against GLBT rights.

Ok, ok, ok...did anyone see Bobby Brown--as in Whitney's lovely ex--blow up at the host of 24 Hours With, when the poor guy made a homosexual joke? Brown was threatening to 'F' him up, was trying to force the poor host to admit he was gay (the guy was too terrified to answer!), just bashed him with threats. And now he has his 'Truth' book out, about how he was this supposedly great guy until he met Whitney. Says Huston married him to (LOL!) clean up her image.
Uh...wasn't it the other way around?
What a card!

uh, I think Michigan is still Michigan, and Minnesota is still Minnesota. I suspect that there is a little less bigotry than that around here, most of the time.

That is messed up! The homophobia is one reason I happily left Michigan in 1982 and have been back only for short visits and my mum's funeral last month.
The amount of GLBT-phobia in Michigan is incredible. Yes, Detroit is somewhat less GLBT-phobic than the rest of the state (many of my family members are welcoming, accepting people), but I still had to go to Canada to marry--that says it all to me. Now, these girls (gotta keep it clean here, folks, lol) are going to be tried as minors and probably get off with a slap on the wrist if that. That says even more to me.:(

I just went to GR Pride and asked the Triangle Foundation, GLESN and HRC what they were going to do. I guess the girls have opened a hornets nest and the girl who taped it and released it is now in trouble also becuase it proves she and others knew about it and didnt stop it. Aparently the head offices of the above entities are really making a HUGH stink and so we will see where that goes. Its apparently all over the national level and not even in MI anymore.
We plan on moving when the kids are older.
