My name is Philip. I'm a student at Hendrix College. I grow up in Memphis Tennessee. I was brought within the United Methodist Church. I'm heterosexual, but have several gay friends. I support full inclusion of homosexuals and lesbians within the church and recognition of gay marriage by both the state and the churches. I'm studying to become a journalist and met the founders of SoulForce while writing for the school paper last spring. Mrs. Wallner shared her story with me and made me realize how important this issue really is and how much personal testimony and experiences will mean to the cause.

As a lesbian, I do appreciate very much all the support straight people give us, because it isn't just us who is fighting this uphill battle. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Sometimes evangelicals who stand up for our rights often do so at personal loss and it is their personal conviction that they should stand up for what is right that I admire. I cringe when I hear that a Baptist church decides to welcome gays and lesbians and they are summarily thrown out of the Southern Baptist convention. But then again, the SBC was formed because of the slavery issue and they split from the American Baptists. And now the American Baptists generally accept gays and lesbians just as they stood up against the reprehensible institution of slavery. Hmmm, see a pattern here? Anyway, I digress... Thanks anyway. :D

Hi Philip,

as a lesbian, former transsexual and witch from Germany I'm glad that you're here and understand the problems which gay and lesbian people often have, even, if they are members of a church.
Last week I saw a report about Tennessee on TV (Whisky and country-music), and I saw that you life in a beautyful erea.
