Thought I'd give a little update on my Sac Pride experience this past weekend. I made sure to get out of bed early enough to watch the parade this year (usually I'm too late).
The parade was great. Pretty tame compared to some stories I've heard. A good sized number of people from various inclusive faiths/churches, and they had several booths at the festival. We had politicians, and a couple floats from local clubs. Entrants included some common businesses such as a Wells Fargo stage coach and a vehicle and marchers representing Chipotle (and I caught a coupon for a free lunch!!). It was awesome.
Um, and we had a few protestors looking like they would rather be just about anywhere but at the parade. They made some tired but valiant attempts holding their anti-gay signs. One guy trying hard to spew anti-gay hate from his speaker was drowned out by all the cheers from onlookers as the parade came to an end at the festival. Eventually speakers were ceased by the numerous PD in attendance, on both motorcycles and horses.
I would be admiss to not mention my favorite parade entrant - the very hot and stylish Sisters of Scota motorycle lesbian group. Ooooohhh baby!
Anyways, we had a great time and the festival had more booths than ever. Best part of the event, sitting at a shaded picnic table, listening to a choral group practice, and watching the weddinb booth to see who was getting ready to tie the knot - we offered part of our table to a very handsome and sweet couple, older gentlemen and one was in a motorized wheelchair. We were all sitting together enjoying lunch and the area was full of swallowtail butterflies. Suddenly one gorgeous yellow and black butterfly landed on one of the gentleman's head, and we admired and exclaimed how special. It took off, but continued to circle our heads, eventually touching all of us and landing on my girlfriend's hair. The butterfly stayed for quite some time, flitting around and briefly touching us here and there before it eventually left.
So, we all looked at each other and nodded in agreement - is was a very special blessing, just for us. Who says God doesn't love GLBTs! I don't need a bible to tell me that - the butterfly gave blessed us with evidence of that truth.
