View Full Version : Happy Birthday to Me!

For some reason the website forgot that it is my birthday today. And shameless theatre person that I am- what am I doing? Throwing a party for myself!

I'm fifty. Yep. 50. The Big 50. Half Century. Halfway to 100! (My grandmother lived to be 96, so you never know, I could make it!)

Here's what a dear friend send me this morning. Love her!

So- let's all seize the day- whatever we are doing and Wake up, Laugh and Live!

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life ! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes yo u sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them.'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever, even ham radio. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'And the devil'sname is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER :
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Oh Daniel, So sorry we missed your 50th! Nonetheless, happy birthday!!!! What did your hubby get you? (or if Steve's suggestive card is any indication) or give you? Hmmm! We lesbians would love to be in that position with some young thing's hair in our faces!! Yum!!! ( I personally would like my wife to do that to me!) and she does, but I digress...

Happy Birthday Daniel and I hope it was all you wanted and then some!:D:weee::aparty::applause:;)

Happy Birthday, Daniel! Being gay, let your life -- like your cake -- be a bit more flammin' each year.

And there are people (http://seniors-health-medicare.suite101.com/article.cfm/worlds_oldest_person_turns_115) who are more than twice your age, young man.

You young people - always carrying on about birthdays.

Hell, in my day, we didn't have a birthday but once every five years - we couldn't afford it. And, when we did have one, we had to share it with our brothers, sisters, cousins, dogs, old curmudgeons down the street ... You don't know how good you have it, boychick.

Why, I remember my 50th - sort of - okay, not really - but I remember that I must have had a 50th. I bet it was a doozy. All-bran and prune juice for all of us in the home, no doubt. Probably had a difficult time enjoying because of my aches and pains, though. I mean, getting old is a bitch - of course, you youngsters don't know that yet. Just wait till YOUR sacroiliac goes, boyo, then you'll long for the good ol' days. It seems like just yesterday that ...

... [several hours later] ...

... oh yeah! Well I had to get up in the morning before I went to bed, go to school while I was working four full-time jobs, come home every night and my dad would kill me - but I still had my homework I had to do. Of course, you tell young people this stuff nowadays and they don't believe you.

Where was I. Oh, right.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU PREPUBESCENT MOPPET YOU.

Happy Birthday to Me!

That's bold . Coming from you though, I soak it up, especially given the following clarification:

For some reason the website forgot that it is my birthday today. And shameless theatre person that I am- what am I doing? Throwing a party for myself!

I'm fifty. Yep. 50. The Big 50. Half Century. Halfway to 100!

I'm only forty :o, but I can't wait to be fifty and have abs like yours (http://www.soulforce.org/forums/showpost.php?p=58058&postcount=171).

Also, would this be a good time to ask Andrew for a nursing home brochure?

Maybe I'm out of line for suggesting that, but I think I read somewhere that the memory portion of the brain goes before the irascible recalcitrant curmudgeon portion goes... Andrew?

Anyway, even though it's late, happy fiftyith!

Thank you dear ones for the B'day greetings!

Speaking of the passage of time Andy, my friend Alan, of 31 years (we did our student teaching together in 1981 at Evangel), came with his boyfriend Dan. 15 friends stuffed themselves into 650 square feet apartment and we had a grand time. The cake was chocolate ganache from a tiny and amazing bakery around the corner. Oh so yummy! I served it with vanilla Rooibus tea from the The House of Tea in Toronto- the only place I can find the stuff. Made from the leaves of a South African bush, Rooibus is high in anti-oxidents. They call it miracle tea there.

And who doesn't need a miracle at one time or another?
