Also: "Speechless" by Steven Curtis Chapman
Somedays it just hits you. I thought this was worth pulling out the old "Thought for the Days." Enjoy at your own risk.
Those of us blessed to have our heats tugged already by the power of the Holy Spirit, and freely take the gift of God's grace He willingly extends, understand that it is a beautiful thing to be in a personal, intimate relationshp with the Lord of the universe. There's no other way around it.
And yet, I have found that an all too common pitfall among us as believers is becoming too well-accustommed to that privledged friendship. We're surrounded by it, and just as a family residing in a beautiful beach house eventually loses the awe of sandy shores, so we many times as Christians lose the awe and respect of God's holiness.
This is easy to do. Steven Curtis Chapman puts it well:
I say so many things...trying to figure you out.
But as mercy opens my eyes, my words are stolen away
With this breathtaking view of your grace
and I'm speechless
I"m astonished and amazed
I'm silenced by your wondrous grace
You have saved me, you have raised me from the dead
And I'm speechless in your presenece now
I'm astounded as I consider how
You have shown us, a love that leads us
Speechless
Do we take the time to understand just who it is we are dealing with? Does "the fear of the Lord" truly stand paramount at the beginning of each morning, causing us to sink to our knees in wonder? Have we become so caught up in our own, wisp-like lifestyles that the awesomeness of God has become an afterthought to daily chores, work schedules, or even (gasp) quiet time?
The beauty of this entire concept is that our personal relationship with Christ, that which allows us to grow closer in that previously mentioned relationship, ought to bring us to our knees ever harder and quicker than any other worldy individual. We know the Lord. We know His love for us, His grace in times of need, His sovereignty in our direction of life, and His power over all that we come to contact with. In other words, our deeper, personal relationship with Christ should work in order to creater a greater sense of awe by revealing the ovewhelming character of an almighty God.
With this all well understood, how can we do anything but fall to our knees and worship. How can we be anything but speechless?
This is no "one and done" fix it. Rather, this is a daily decision to acknowledge and act according to who God is. Daily, we must throw aside other distractions, whatever they may be, and look to Jesus (Heb 12:1).
Let us truly fix our eyes on our Lord and Savior, then, and stretch out in full awe of our Creator.
God Bless,
Jonathan
