The National Enquirer is reporting that Sarah Palin had an affair with her husbands ex business partner. Usually I would not look at the NE as reliable journalism but after John Edwards you have to wonder. The blogs out there are going crazy over this new information. Would it finally make her go away? Will this be the straw that breaks the camels back?

This blog states that Palin's husbands ex business partner made an emergency motion to seal his divorce records and it was denied.

Could be true, could be false. To me it really wouldn't matter much. Her stance on the issues and her obvious lack of qualifications for the VP office is enough for me to give her the thumbs down.

If there's something in the ex-partner's divorce records that confirms the allegations, it will come out soon. Otherwise, it could be another bullshit story by the Enquirer.

However, the Enquirer's story about John Edward's affair turned out to be true, so who knows?

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I myself really don't care if she has had an affair or not. I am just hoping for SOMETHING for all the people out there that seem to think she is a hero. From all the news reports I see she seems to be very popular among the Conservatives and Evangelicals. Maybe this could change that.

The truth. That's what I think anyway, regardless where it comes from. And in that sense, after reading all I could out there in the blog-sphere (oh did I have time on my hands today...but that's another story), there are a few questions that need answering. And one of those unanswered questions is why the hospital where Palin's son was born has no record of that birth. Why is that important? Because the story line put forth by the McCain campaign need to be validated.

You know, a certain Ms. Dowd over at the NYTimes seems to have hit the nail on the head when she noted that the press- both the bloggers and the newspapers- seem to be doing the real vetting of the VP candidate (btw: Dowd won a Pulitzer Prize for her columns about Hillary Clinton).

Oh....this latest bit of 'news' could prove to be nothing more than idle accusation. That said, getting to the bottom of the matter means that we can all go on and deal with the real stuff, that is, issues rather than personalities. However, trouble may be in the offing when the two are confused.

This isn't about Swiftboating a politician. This is about finding out all we can about someone who is going to be in the second highest position in the United States. We know NOTHING about Sarah Palin except what she and the McCain campaign have told us. That's not enough.

I'm just sorry that Palin won't be appearing on the late Tim Russert show. Can she hold her own on Meet the Press or the Lehrer Hour? Can she talk about issues without a script in front of her? And how does she intend to handle the Pakistani goverment? And how does she plan to deal with the sub-prime lenders responsible for the morgage crisis?

If elected, she will be, after all, a heart's beat away from the highest office in the land.

I have thought many of those thoughts myself. I heard that Cheney went to Georgia I think this week. I can't imagine Palin traveling to these other countries to speak about issues going on. Like you, I can't imagine sending her to Pakistan or anywhere else to speak with world leaders. I can't wait for the debates to start. I can't even imagine her face to face with Biden with no script. THAT will really be the truth. Anyone can read a teleprompter.

I agree. She won't allow most of the news media to interview her. How is she going to handle the pressure of debates?

I'm agreeing that we need to turn our attentions to issues that really matter. Daniel sums it up well--truth matters a great deal. Her "bridge to nowhere" claim seems to be a key example of her stretching the truth if not outright lying.

Just as both Obama's and McCain's religious views and choice of preachers has become a matter of public scrutiny, so does Palin's. In a little bit I'll post some links that raise the question of her peculiar views about "God's will" and her belief's about who has special knowledge of what God's will is. She also has beliefs about God's intentions for what are the right political decisions on war and the economy. Likewise she has a notion that it is God who puts our leaders in office and not the people. I'm afraid she believes that it's God's will that she should become President (whether now or later) no matter what it takes to get there.

Debate Not Relate

The scariest thing I hear about the Palin nomination was that she would appeal to voters because they would be able to relate to her and she to them. I get that. There are many places where relatability is key. I am a recovering addict alcoholic and finding another group that relates to my struggles is/was key to my sobriety. When I am at school I find myself grouping with others whose kids share the same issues, interests. People tell me all the time that the More magazine article where I showed what my real body looked like in comparison to the air brushed images most women are fed, was important and made me relatable. That too is great. The problem is I may be relatable and share some of your experiences and concerns but you don't want me as president of United States. Relatability gets you nothing in a complex financial crisis. Relatability doesn't help you understand the Gordian knot of trouble in the Middle East. Relatability doesn't help you untangle the obscenity which is our health care and insurance system and relatability doesn't train the hundreds of thousands of new teachers and repair and rebuild the smashed infrastructure and schools where they work.

I couldn't hold my own for one minute in a debate on any issue with someone like a Barack Obama or Joseph Biden and neither can Sarah Palin. When the call comes at 3AM I want a mind who was at the top of their class, who has gravitas and a real intellect. I want a leader who is a scholar who can hold the history of civilization in his head and will read and learn from the past as he charts the future. Real debates, where issues are explored, are the only way, prior to an election, to get the two candidates and their running mates to share their ideas and plans for the myriad contingencies they will/might face. This isn't a test. We don't get a re-do. This is the hardest time this generation has ever faced and people are all scared about the economy, our health care and mostly our children's futures. That is what millions of Americans and I can relate to.

Huffington herself made a great point on Larry King recently, and that was that Democrats need to be very careful about not getting caught up in the soap opera of Sarah Palin for the next 60 days. That would be fatal. Why? Because we wouldn't be talking about the issues.

I just heard Anderson Cooper say the same thing on CNN just now. They were talking about how important for Obama not to debate Palin and all her issues. The focus has got to be about the real issues. Healthcare, the economy, Iraq, jobs....It is so easy to get off track.

Thank you Rick for commenting on my pic. I think it's nice to have a face to a name, seems like we're all down at the neighborhood coffee shop sitting around a table over espresso, talking about the issues. I know that may sound corny but I like "seeing" who I am talking to! It brings us that much closer together!
