Ever hear of a gay fundamentalist? I didn't think they existed either, but I ran into a group of King James Only, bi-phobic, fundamentalist, gay Christians, where one would ordinarily expect to find them. On the internet. I took it really personally at first, and then I read the rest of their page and saw that they are no better than that Phelps creep. I never let him get me down, so why should they bother me?

Because it felt like a betrayal by those I'd trusted, and a rejection from a community that I've come to love and fight for. After I calmed down a bit, spewed my emotions out on my blog, and thought about how many amazing people I've met, I was able to say that this is nowhere near what most gay Christians believe, and they're just crazy.

I won't get into the huge rant I got into on Facebook, but here is the link to the site, and the two most offensive parts of it, in my opinion. If you have problems with blood pressure, this might not be the best site to check out, but I hope that some will take a look at it, and maybe see if we can do anything to help them see what harm they could be doing to the broader LGBT and Christian communities, and gay Christians specifically.

If they're really that toxic, nothing we say is going to change what they're doing/saying. Probably best steering clear of those shores.

I shan't be clicking on those links today - having a bit of an attitude problem myself today, so I definitely don't need to throw a lit match on a pile of tinder by clicking.

Just. . . If they're like the Phelps clan, they're no place CLOSE to healthy. So don't expect the things they say to make sense or to lead anyplace healthy.
Certainly, don't take it personally.

There is a guy in AZ who spends every weekday during office hours pacing back and forth across a busy intersection about 2 miles south of my house. He wears a headset, looks up into the sky, and mutters incessantly, pointing and gesturing into the air, yet always manages to cross the intersection during the WALK signal, avoiding a traffic accident.
It's just what he does.
Do I understand it?
No.
Do I want to stop and get to know him?
No.
I just pass by without taking anything he says or does personally, and leave it out there in the ether, where it belongs.

I'd suggest likewise steering clear of the new gay-phelpsian-fundamentalists. :rolleyes:

Why exactly did you find this site scary? I browsed through it and found it
biblically sound. They took the Bible and looked at it without bias or prejudice and explained it in plain language that anybody would understand. They didn't try to gloss over anything, and it didn't seem scary or intimidating to me. Fred Phelps is just an idiot and so are his followers. His website is really scary. He spews forth hatred and he is just a certifiable crazy person-antisocial, schizophrenic, narcissistic, and arrogant.

I will investigate this site more later, but I just didn't find it to be the gay equivalent to Fred Phelps.

We are dealing with Hurricane Ike and I don't expect to have power after tonight, so I may not be online for a few days.

I checked out those links, and agree that the stuff is creepy. I get weirded out when I see people ask for tolerance for themselves and then show intolerance for others.

Our own resources use the New American Standard Bible for scripture references, so by their logic, we endorse a false bible, we've exchanged the word of God for Satan's lies. They won't say it directly, but everybody associated with Soulforce is lumped into those statements. Yet they link to Soulforce video Dear Dr. Dobson, praising it for showing what gay families are like.

At least Phelps is consistent with his madness.

They also have their information about several of the "satanist" translators very wrong.

I really should muzzle myself today because of that constant boil of anger that's with me, but I'm too irritable to censor anything I may say today.

These idiots really need to be smacked. How would they like it if someone told them they are false, deceived morons too stupid to know that they are really bisexual?

Do you know when I was a very little girl (kindergarten) and I first learned of adults in gay relationships, I assumed that all of those individuals were bisexual?

Well, I have nothing against bisexuals, because I think it is totally possible to have attractions to both sexes. Why the hell not? I am glad these people take up for us because they may be gay themselves, but to slam bisexuals is just another error in translation, and they can't be gay and slamming others too. I thought, though, that the reference made about bisexuals was referring to men who were inherently heterosexual engaging in homosexual sex. Who knows.

We haven't lost power yet, so we will see when the eye of this storm has passed directly over us. It is supposed to come ashore west of Galveston Bay and come straight up I-45 which I live off, 30 miles north of Houston.
Hopefully by that time it will have weakened and all we will get is rain and some wind. Thanks for all the well wishes. I will give you an update when I can.

This is what I think of when I read about fundamental, right winged so called Chrisitans. I used to bartend, and I had these two Catholic priests come in for coffee or pops. One day we were telling jokes and they told me this one:

A man dies and finds himself at the Pearly Gates in front of Saint Peter himself. Upon going through the required paperwork, he is told that he will be taken to his heavenly rewards and Saint Peter gestures for the man to follow him. Soon they are going up hills and down hills and through clouds, and down dirt paths when they come upon a great hallway with 10,000 rooms. They companionably chat as they go along when all the sudden, Saint Peter puts his finger to his lips and says very quietly, "we have to take off our shoes and tip toe past this one room" so, the man does as requested and they both tip toe quietly past the doorway, not stoping to put on their shoes until they are well past the door. After a bit, the man can't stand wondering any longer and asks "Saint Peter, why did we have to be so quiet going past that one door?" Saint Peter looks at him and replies "That door? Oh, those were the First Assembers of God(INSERT ANY RELIGION HERE)in there and they think they're the only ones up here!"

It's pretty darned sad that someone didn't tell those people that joke and they didn't learn a bit of tolerance....:'(

Okay, that's paraphrased, but it's in their definitions, click the second link I provided. What they are engaging in is bisexual erasure, and as Zerbie said monosexism. I don't know if there is hope for them, I want to believe there is, because I want to believe that about everybody, but they do make it rather hard.

Unfortunately, many of the groups do this sort of thing to feel better about themselves. These groups much like the Phelps like to believe their own ideology or theocracy but fail to look at things in terms of reality. Their is nothing wrong with ideology as long as you are capable of looking at reality. I do not see any difference in this than those who want to teach abstinence only in the schools and to our teenagers. Though the ideology sounds great, the reality tells a much different story. Sexuality is very fluid and to think that your ideology is reality is not only oppressive, but it is also far from reality.
And Zerbie sometimes we get so full of emotions that is good for them to boil over and fall out where they may (may not be so good and those it boils over on to though...LOL). Sometimes it is the only way to cleanse ourselves so we can go on to better and wonderful things.

Well as to their definition, that has always been how I experienced myself. At first, I thought all bisexuals were like me -- commitment oriented and exclusive with one partner only. Turns out that we bi s, like those of other sexuality types, come in all kinds, some who settle down exclusively with one partner, others who do not, etc etc etc.

I have been struggling some with what you just called "bisexual erasure;" it seems to be happening a lot lately. I'm involved in a project that involves a lot of straight allies, so that plus the fact that I'm married has everyone assuming, and I've gotten so tired of hemming and hawing, saying "Well, y'know, I don't really label, but I kinda see myself as bi. . ." has gotten really tiresome so I've completely stopped doing it. And sometimes I question if that is wrong of me. Hetero privilege, bla bla bla.

Oh I swear!

Next pride festival I'll just have to purchase one of those tees that says "Nobody knows I'm bisexual," and have the issue clarified for once and all. Until I meet the next new acquaintance. :rolleyes:

We really should start reversing the game on the monosexuals one of these days. Just for kicks. See how long until they start tearing out their hair and screaming. :lol:

Haha, that would be cruel, but it does sound entertaining. I remember playing with bisexual theory (based on Freud) and determining that the entire world is bisexual, heteros are hiding and homos just aren't finding the right opposite sex individuals.

But then I tossed it in favor of my current stance. "Love is love, gender is an illusion". Which makes me look at their apparent acceptance of transgender folk. Well, they do seem to think that transgender issues are as simple as being assigned to the opposite side of the gender coin. But then again, it's an issue as complicated as sexuality. Some of us fit, some of us lean, some of us have no clue. And then you get the fun task of being a non/pre-op mtf who is attracted to women but not sure if he's a straight man or a male-bodied lesbian. I don't think the global community will ever fully understand gender and sexuality, but I hope someday that we all may learn to understand each other.
