I think the OP was asking about *where* to go to publicize and to whom to circulate the invitation.
Right?
Myspace
facebook
blogs
bookstores (Borders Books and the like usually have a bulletin board for posting public notices)
coffee shops (same)
public events calendars (area newspapers, magazines, and radio shows often have public events calendars, including an online version)
community centers
like-minded organizations with memberships: they may agree to announce your event to their members at meetings or in electronic newsletters

Hi Colin
You can also put your event on the Jointheimpact website. Although mainly California events are posted, I think they post nationwide events as well. There might be other websites that are worth posting the event on, off the top of my head I can't think of anything specific now, but if something else comes to mind I'll post. Good luck!
