View Full Version : Stealing yard signs

I worked down at the Democrat Headquarters this afternoon and while I was there at least a dozen people came in requesting an Obama yard sign because their's had been stolen. One man said it was the third time his yard sign had been swiped. Another man said his Obama yard sign had been torn up and thrown onto his lawn. A woman said that she now takes her yard sign in at night.

I wonder what's going through these people's minds who steal yard signs. Are they thinking that if they can only steal enough yard signs of their candidate's opponent, they will get their candidate elected?

Wow. Great plan. And maybe if they collect enough beer bottles along the highway, they can bail out Wall Street.

Hey Rick,
Funny you would post this, as I have recently noticed the same with the "No On 8" signs; here one day, gone the next. Probably thrown into a closet somewhere...

As i recall this was a big problem during the last presidential election. John Kerry signs were being destroyed and stolen.

Ya know - we're still waiting for our Obama/Biden sign (plus tee shirts, car decal, ec) to arrive.

We ordered them around the 24th of August. What the heck is taking so long??!

So basically, we have no Obama sign for anyone TO steal.

Zerbie,

I bet your local Obama Campaign Headquarters has yard signs.

Ah yes, by now they probably do. They didn't have them 6 weeks ago when I was looking - and then once I ordered from the campaign I assumed that meant we would HAVE a yard sign soon. Like, way sooner than now.

Maybe the local office would give us one, since we already donated a big chunk for a bunch of stuff that never arrived.

Or, what do y'all think? Is it about time to send an email comment to the campaign asking where the heck our Obama gear is? It's been 6 weeks already.

Our local Obama Campaign Headquarters charges 5 bucks for a yard sign which most people gladly pay. But, like you say, since you've already paid for stuff that you've still not received, you might convince your Obama Headquarters to give you a yard sign at no charge.

At any rate, it's only a month until the election. Maybe you should email the campaign and inquire about your stuff. I'm still waiting for an Obama t-shirt I ordered on line two weeks ago. But chances are they've been swamped with orders.

I hope you get your yard sign soon.

OMG! I just got a response from the Obama campaign saying the yard sign and other gear we ordered around the 24th of August will take another TWO to FOUR WEEKS to arrive!!

Of course, ordering in August I assumed I was ordering stuff to USE before the election. Not just post-election souvenirs.

If there's ever a next time, I won't try to order gear directly from the campaign.

Sheesh, what's the point now, your stuff may not even get to you before the election. That's bad customer service! I'm not even going to order anything at this late point then.

ok, back to the debate but I should be doing homework ;)

Zerbie and Rick,

I did not look at this thread until today because I wasn't interested in yard signs. So imagine my surprise when I read it tonight, while waiting for my Obama bumper stickers and buttons! I looked online and saw that my stuff that I ordered 2 weeks ago is still being processed! I had no idea that it would take this long...I have been looking for it to arrive any day now...Lol!

I did get a bumper sticker for 2.00 while I was at the Obama HQ. The positive side of this is that I am hoping that the reason for the delay is that so many people want this stuff. That is a good problem to have!!!

Expect it to arrive in December.
They've estimated 3 months for the stuff I bought in mid-August.

Yeah, I guess it IS good that so many people want the stuff, but I have to presume that no one is receiving any of it yet. We ordered the complete "kit" (yard sign, tee shirt, car decal, plus buttons) the first HOUR it became available, and we still might not get it until after the election. This is nuts!

I regret not ordering from Cafe Press - although the reason we ordered through the campaign was that we wanted our order funds to double as donations. So at least we donated.

That is exactly why I ordered from the campaign and not Cafepress! Oh well, at least we did donate! I guess we will have some stuff to show the grandchildren!

I stole some Anne Richards signs when I was in school. It was because I liked her and wanted them. Probably not why people still Obama signs though.;)

I think BruceChris was right about putting your signs in the windows of your house or apartment!

I also like the idea of putting them in your car windows (park in your garage at night?)

Put them on top of a fence - harder to reach?

Put them in your tree in the front yard?

On top of your front porch?

Make your own HUGE signs that are too big to move easily?

Chalk it on your sidewalk? Passersby will have to read!

Let's get creative!

The Democrat Headquarters here has already run out of Obama yard signs after receiving several thousand just two weeks ago. The office has been swamped with people coming in asking for yard signs and we've had to turn them away empty handed.

However, we're supposed to get another shipment in of a couple thousand by the first of next week. And the Obama Headquarters five blocks away is supposed to receive 8,000 yard signs within a week.

There's a huge demand for these things here in North Carolina since the polls have NC tied 47% Obama to 47% McCain. They are 5 bucks each. If some of you really want one and agree to pay the cost and shipping charge, I'll send one to you as soon as they come in.

I can only do this for a couple of people so act fast.

Sadly, my wife has requested that I not put yard signs out - either for Obama/Biden or No on 8. She's been hearing about what people are doing to those who have them, including vandalizing the signs, houses, spraying graffiti on houses and cars, etc. She doesn't want to deal with the drama of having that happen. I wanted to put both out in front. :(

Our yard sign just arrived.
It's up now.
Looks pretty on the desert landscaping. Hubby took a picture. :)

Did anyone read about that kid who had his Obama sign stolden 2 times? Well, he got mad and made one and set up a 24 hour live stream webcam from in his house, pointed at the sign. He broadcast it on Utube and asked that people all over the world watch and make sure it does not get taken again. Well, guess what? The WHOLE world has been watching that sign via Utube, to the point that one person blogged that he had to go to bed so the Australians had to take over the watch, and they blogged back and did so. A bunch of people I guess are watching that sign and communicating all over the world. Isn't that cool? I just love it! It was in our news paper Friday.

I just love this younger generation, they are so savey

Oh holy smokes! That's hardly more than a few miles away from where we live.

I don't anticipate anyone in this neighborhood defacing signs though. Whatever our disagreements, I don't ever expect them to stoop as low as that. That would surprise me.

It's been happening in the area here, but not in our neighborhood. It's pretty quite and respectful. Even those who disagree, do it by posting their own signs or ignoring the signs posted (yes, even the Yes on 8/No on 8 are unscathed in our neighborhood). Other areas in Sac are not so lucky. People have broken into cars and painted racist graffiti on signs and houses/garage doors.

I really want my yard signs but it's probably too late to even think about ordering them now. :(

I put up a sign Wednesday. It was stolen today. Tomorrow I'll put up my spare and Suday I'll buy a couple more just in case. Like the lady on that video said, they're just making me donate more money to the cause.

Well, I must confess that last evening, while watching weird, strange, completely clueless people on the news talking about how they're voting for McPalin, I did have a brief flash of a fantasy: taking my sturdy, sensible Chevy Prizm out on the town for a good old-fashioned sign-swipin' party! (McCain signs.) But I don't want to lower myself to those standards. Still, it was a nice fantasy while it lasted.

My friend Wesley likes to steal Yes on 8 signs. She's a sweetie, and I know that she does it out of love. She's still a little deviant hellion though. It's so cute.
