If the bad economic news is scaring you, don't let it. It's only a temporary blip on the screen.

A new book has just come out authored by 153 scientists and other great thinkers from around the world titled "What Are You Optimistic About?" It paints a very bright picture for the future of our planet.

Here's an excerpt from the introduction:

"The contributors to this very cheering anthology are full of hope, but theirs is a different kind of optimism, born of expertise and hard imaginative thinking. And one of the most optimistic things about the collection is the breadth and variety of things the contributors are optimistic about. So many different ways we can make the world better! So many lights at the end of so many tunnels! Here we find schemes for cooling the Arctic ice cap, solving our energy problems, democratizing the global economy, improving transparency in government, muffling or dissolving religious discord, and even enlarging our personal intelligence and improving the phenomenon of friendship. We can come to understand ourselves and each other better, finally master math, and share our good fortunes with larger segments of the world's population ( which will soon stabilize)."

The book discusses how evidence-based decision making will transform society, how the war between science and religion will see a new light, how people will value truth, violence will decrease, cities will cure poverty, and technology will save the planet.

Here's a review on the book:

"The nightly news and conventional wisdom tell us that things are bad and getting worse. Yet, despite dire predictions, scientists see many good things on the horizon. John Brockman, publisher of Edge, the influential online salon, recently asked more than 150 high-powered scientific thinkers to answer the vital question for our frequently pessimistic times: "What are you optimistic about?"

Spanning a wide range of topics - from string theory to education, from population growth to medicine, and even global warming to the end of the world - What Are You Optimistic About? is an impressive array of what world-class minds (including Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, New York Times best selling authors, and Harvard professors, among others) have weighed in to offer carefully considered optimistic visions of tomorrow. Their provocative and controversial ideas may rouse skepticism, but they might possibly change our perception of humanity's future."

So the brilliant thinkers of today see a bright world for tomorrow. In the not too distant future the planet will be a healthier, happier place to live. :)
