I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience starting a safe zone program in their school? Or, I guess, anything similar in a school. Right now, pretty much all the resources I have came from google.

I'm working on getting a steering committee together (already), hopefully consisting of students, faculty, and staff. From there, I'm not entirely sure. It's probably a good idea to have at least most of the thing put together before approaching "the administration", but I don't even know what that means / who it would have to go through.

I haven't really done something like this before, but I've been at this school for two months, and I can tell it's something we need. Any help or support is definitely appreciated.

No experience starting up any organization. But how about if you contacted someone at a peer institution that already has a Safe Zone program? Maybe you can even find a campus with a new Safe Zone? There might be someone with start-up experience who could give you guidance, or at least fill you in on what it was like on their campus. People generally enjoy giving advice, if we aren't too demanding when we ask.

By the way, thank you for starting up the program. It means a lot to me to know that young people are going to see visible support on their campuses. A year or so ago I visited back to my old middle school, and looked at the classrooms of the folk who had been my favorite teachers. My fave teachers from years ago now have Safe Zone stickers posted prominently on their doors. I was so proud.:) Yet, when I was in their classes, such a concept was still unthinkable. Safe Zone simply did not exist then, I don't believe - not until I was in college I think.

Alecto. Thanks for all the support you give.
