"If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change." - From Michael Jackson's song, MAN IN THE MIRROR

Is this supposed to be funny - because I can't help but think how many times he changed how he looked - the man he looked at in the mirror changed many times. But all of that is externality. What is inside - that's what matters, I think anyway. And Mahatma Ghandi's words "Be the change you want to see in the world." And with the interconnectedness of us all, one person can make a difference.

This is not a joke!
I really don't want to get into it about Michael Jackson.
However, Michael Jackson has a skin disorder which he can not do anything about called vitiligo.
Also, whatever plastic surgery he has had has been greatly exaggerated.

I don't mean to hurt your feelings - his skin condition is different from the plastic surgery that drastically altered the structure of his face. I saw in people magazine the progression for many years the altering of his face - that's what flashed in my mind. This vision and the quote hit my sense of humor and raised the question I asked. Please forgive me :o

I don't think that anything is funny about how mean and cruel people have been when they talk about Michael Jackson. Some of those physical things he can't help. Also, he said that he only he 2 plastic surgery procedures done.
Let's focus on the fact that Michael Jackson in the world's all-time greatest performer/entertainer.

I don't think it's funny, but I do feel that it's pathetic. Michael Jackson suffers from internalized racism in my opinion. I'm not sure I really believe the stories about his illness, but clearly he is a person who couldn't see the beauty of Afro American features and tried his best to look white.
It's not funny, as I said, it's pathetic. And while I find looking at him tends to gross me out, I also feel for him that he is such an extremely unhappy individual.

Nah, I'd rather focus on the fact that he's a child molestor and leave it at that.

“ Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. ”
--Buddha
Fortunately I found this quote after I had learned the lesson; had it been the other way around I would have said he was full of it!!!!!:D

kara speltz,
You don't know Michael Jackson's heart. Don't try to judge how he feels about being an African-American man.

Matt Algren,
In this country, when someone goes through a court trial and the jury finds that person not-guilty, it should mean something. Michael Jackson is innocent and it's really ugly to continue those lies about him.
------------------
As gay people, society is against us. Homophobia is the last great bias and discrimination. Somehow it's still okay pick on males by calling them faggots and all of the crap.
Being that we experience a lot of the negative things that we experience. Why do we do to Michael Jackson what people do to us? You may be saying something negative about Michael Jackson because of your distorted opinion about him; however, at the same time, somebody is saying something negative about you, because you're gay, because of their distorted opinion about gays. It's something to think about...

Found not guilty ≠ Found innocent.

Semantics. Not only in Michael Jackson not guilty. Michael Jackson is innocent.
Judging people and throwing stones at people is a very dangerous thing. Gay people are judged and stones are thrown at gay people. We should know this!

Not semantics, there's a major difference. Found not guilty means that the evidence provided hasn't been strong enough to prove guilt. Found innocent means that it has proven that he absolutely didn't do it.
I have no problem judging someone who rapes children. None at all.

Matt, I agree with you that MJ is likely a child molester. I am curious...does that negate the words of his songs?
Many an artist in our world's history has been sick in one way or another. Some more reprehensible than others. Do we refuse the beauty of the art because of the life of the man? I am just wondering and not baiting you. :)

It doesn't negate the words, but it certainly makes me unable to listen to his music.

Ah. I can respect that. For what it is worth...I prefer Weird Al over MJ.
But I consider Kevin Smith films to be high art.

Everyone does have the right to their own opinion, no matter how wrong it is. It's very easy for everyone to dump on Michael Jackson after the media and painted such a negative, false impression of him.
Can you not hear through the noise? Can you not see through the fog?
It's a dangerous game to label people in a negative way. The popular view isn't always right! Think about current gay issues...
