Not only did marriage for LGBT persons fail in CA, AZ, and FL but in Arkansas laws were passed to deny homosexuals from being foster parents and adopting children. This truly breaks my heart. The children will suffer. Those countless, thousands of children in that state that just need a loving home.

If I wasn't so excited about President Obama, I would feel really defeated about all of this. However, I do feel HOPE today. We must keep fighting for those children!

I think the Arkansas vote bothers me more than the others, possibly because I didn't even know it was out there until Monday.

Keep in mind also that this law doesn't just restrict The Gays, but also any unmarried straight person from being a foster or adoptive parent. Straight people who have lived together for five years but not married for some reason are inelligible.

The article I read yesterday said that there are 3400 children in foster care in Arkansas, but only 1000 eligible homes. That means that the vast majority of the kids (especially if they're older) will be shuffled from group home to group home until they hit 18.

Unbelievable.

I agree. This is a very cruel law.

Arkansas kind of flew under the radar. What happened in Florida didn't surprise me. California was somewhat surprising, but you had a lot money poured in by the Mormon Church. THis is where the scales were tipped, I believe.

I adopted my son. There are a lot of children who just want some place to call their own and for someone to love  them. I have some thoughts about the adoption process but that's for another post.

The Arkansas vote was just plain stupid. But remember it's Arkansas. I know the Clintons are from there, but most of the people living there appear to be products of the bible belt. I have a friend there, her last words to me a few years ago when I came out to her were: may god have mercy on your soul.

That is the mentality and although it breaks my heart, it doesn't surprise me that a majority of that state thinks orphans are better off in an orphanage than a loving home. Idiots.

The anti-Mormon ad didn't help. I never saw it but heard about it. That really torked people off ("See? Those gays are anti-religious bigots!!") and made them all the more adamant about passing P8.

So shouldn't everyone who voted YES be required to help raise, protect, feed and educate these children???

It's the children who suffer, and for that people of Arkansas who voted yes should be ashamed. That's another message that needs to get out.

Nothing says lets protect children like preventing them from being placed into safe and loving homes.

Someone who obviously voted yes on 8, posted on a newspaper article that gays and lesbians should just accept the voice of the people, and accept our fate. If not, then we could expect something in CA like that in Arkansas, so we couldn't adopt children either.

So let's punish the children??? That's family values??? If so, I don't want any of their family values.
