I am probably the last person you would ever think to show up here "Im an atheist". But seeing how nobly and greatly you represent your religion and the issue you fight for i cant help but join and want to pitch in.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Robert. You are not alone. Welcome to the site. I'm not an atheist but I don't believe in the Judeo-Christian God. I know of at least one other Atheist on here who I'm sure will soon welcome you as well. You will likely be welcomed by all the fantastic, progressive Christians on here too. Am I leaving anyone else out? Anyone want to do a religious demographic thread similar to the age thread?

Anyway, I hope you find some good discussions to get into on here!

K

Welcome, Robert.

This community will probably be a good fit for you. Yes, there is another atheist here. Where are ya, Rick? :p

I don't have a name for a 'religion' that I belong to, since I haven't joined any of them.
I just like kindness and am inspired by people who serve the world and make it a kinder place to live.

Yeah Robert, it's a great mix of everything. A little bit of that, a little bit of this. Brings a nice mix of diversity to the table. Welcome and enjoy!

To explain the situation that we seem to face, there seems to be two general types of groups that post here.

In the first, there are people who will tell you that God loves you, and that they wish to accept you as you are, and hope that you will accept them.

In the second, there are some people who have a tendency to tell you what is wrong with you, or even give you a long list of all of the things that they think you are doing to piss God off.

Unfortunately, most of the people in both groups often call themselves Christians.

We would like to think that most of the time, most of our members are in the first group, even if they may call themselves pagans, or Buddhists, or Zoroastrians, or whatever.

We definitely have some Christian clergy, who are in the first group.

Of course, most of the time we have other things to talk about. Please come back, and tell us more about yourself.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Thank you all for such a warm welcome.

Since a few request for more information about me where made let me add to the tale of me.

I am a recently married 33 year old male with one son.
I am active in politics and religious discussions daily "find them to be the most important issue of our time".
I love music and create and perfom music for fun.

I guess to understand me and why i speak and act the way i do i should share with you all what i like to call my ATHEIST TESTIMONY "yes i know it sounds silly i get silly sometimes"

I have been a atheist for most of my entire adult life. Asa Young child i was raised Roman Catholic, converted to Mormonism in my early teens and stayed with this church until I was 18.

After much soul searching I came to believe that no book based god I have ever heard of could live up to this idea of a perfect deity, They all had some man made complex or fault and so I left my church. I dabbled in just about any religion tossed at me at the time you could not convince me a god did not exist I just figured I had not looked hard enough.

So I looked harder until one day I had a very disturbing thought. I suffered from vanity. IF god is perfect and I am not Perfect how could the fallible ever understand the infallible. So to me my search for god although full of good intentions was the highest form of vanity.

So I stopped looking for god. But I decided that the best compliment I could give to a creator would be to explore what I can understand, what he created. If I could not understand god I could at least get a firm grip on his creation. Or so i thought....LOL.

Exploring the world only took me farther and farther away form any belief I may haver had.

Until you get me now.

Full of wonder and full of question.
Full of humility "I HOPE"
But with no belief.

And on the slim chance I am wrong.
Im sure any perfect deity wont fault me for where I am.

Hello I am Robert "again" ;)

Welcome to Soulforce Robert. I think the majority of people on this forum are theists, most of whom are Christian. But I am a gay atheist and there may be one or two other non-believers here as well.

There are a lot of cool and intelligent people on this forum. And Soulforce as an organization is on the front lines in the fight for LGBT equality. Right now there is a busload of 30 young LGBT Christians visiting college campuses throughout the South meeting face to face with college administrations and students to help bridge the gap of misunderstanding. These young Equality Riders are the heroes of the LGBT Rights movement of the 00s.

This is a great organization. So stick around and contribute to the forum. You may get a good argument from some of these folks but you'll also get some very stimulating conversation.

Glad to have you here. :)

Rick

Ooooh, great bio!

I love it how the 'atheists' usually exhibit the most comprehensive respect for god of all everyone. Yeah, that's how I read your post. :p

Very glad to have you around!

And Vice Versa.

I think perhaps what defines the members here is that they address the question. And that they have, or are working on their relationship with the gay community, and with their own sexuality.

For Now, Bruce Chris

Welcome to Soulforce!

I agree with everything that has been said about all the "groups" here. I myself am a Christian and attend a United Methodist Church. With that being said, I can TOTALLY understand why so many people look at Christians and want to run the other way! It's almost as if Christianity has two different faces. We are all followers of Christ but are different as night and day.

Anyway, I have met some very spiritual atheists so welcome! The reason SF is such an amazing place is that you meet people here that otherwise you may never would have talked with them in your own community. There is much respect here.

Welcome!

Christine
