In a radio webcast on the American Family Association site, a supporter of Prop 8 was being interviewed about the victory of Prop 8 in California and was shocked that several law suits had been filed to challenge the amendment. The commentator replied, " That's unbelievable!" The man being interviewed said, "Yes. These people are not going away."

DAMN RIGHT WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY!!!! If this moron thinks a constitutional amendment is going to make us "go away" then he's got grits for brains. He and the "Christian" right can spend millions and millions of dollars and pass laws and amendments and ordinances and protest in the streets and jump up and down and scream and holler and pray and cry all they want to. But WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY!!!!

Prop 8 and Prop 102 are only temporary setbacks. We are going to keep coming back again and again and again, time after time, after time. We have way too much self-respect to accept anything less than full equality and we're going to keep fighting until we get it.

So any of you out there reading this who happened to have landed on this thread who are working to deny us equality, you are wasting your time and money. We are going to keep fighting back over and over and we're not going to stop until we win. And if you want us to "go away", sorry bud, but that simply aint going to happen. Not now, not ever!! We're here and we're not going anywhere, so you better damn well get used to us being around.

Amen. May God bless us with determination so that we will not give up.

They are whining here in Sacramento, we are in their faces, we won't accept our defeat, we are poor losers. They are right to all three. I am a poor loser, especially when the loss includes my fundamental civil rights. I'm going to be in their faces for a long time. I will never accept defeat.

If it were there civil rights, they would do the same. But so many people are content with stripping gays and lesbians of civil rights, that they expect us to shut up and crawl back into our closets. They don't want any challenges, they don't want us to rise up and claim what is ours. Because they are desperate, and they know their time is coming to an end. They are feeling especially thrilled with the victory in passing Prop 8, because they know they will never win the war.

History has proven, justice and truth always wins out over lies and hate.

I, for one, have only been emboldened by this election. It's lit a fire under my ass, and I'm more anxious than ever to get out and DO something about it. I'm starting small (still in school), but even there, the daunting tasks....not as daunting anymore.

Dear Prop 8 people,

Guess what, gay people already get married. Everyday. We HAD a church wedding with all 3 ministers of our church officiating. The fact that the state of NC does not recognize this as a civil contract is immaterial. We took vows before God. Noone can ever take that away.

So, we already get married by churches so, so far all you have done is taken the right to get civilly married in front of a Justice of the Peace or in front of an Elvis impersonator. Well, that is a bummer and we will not go away and we will work for this.

Sometimes I think that's ultimately why we'll win. Because we will forever be threatened boy NOT having our rights, but once we've got 'em and have them for awhile, they'll have to stop being a threat to other folks, right? (right? :- /)

Have y'all seen this?

We're keeping close watch on these protests, since we are only a day's drive from CA. If one gets planned when we can both get the day off, we'll drive over. Some have been complaining about the protests, but I seriously think in light of the severity of what happened on Tuesday, that this NEEDS to happen.

Check out the photos!

Reminds me of the street protest that came out of ACT-UP in the 80's.

We're here! We're Queer! Get used to it!

Kinda sums it up, doesn't it? There is a certain defiance in that statement. And sometimes defiance is worth having. Time to use our anger (and it is anger!) and get busy.

There really isn't any going back. Whether prop 8 is challenged in court, or is put back on the ballot as a referendum, change is going to happen.

I love the poster I saw today on Towleroad which said:

NO MORE NICE GAY!

It's a subject I think we need to look at and talk about more. That is, being nice is often the same thing as being submissive. And the anti-prop people are counting on that. And the decision to stop being nice, I have to say, is not a decision to be violent.

It's a decision to stand up for one's humanity and the humanity and rights of all people.

I think it starts with self-respect. One doesn't have to be 'nice' to have that. One just has to value one's worth as a human being, and not barter it away. Not for anyone. No how. No way!

YES!! Very well said Daniel. It's time we stop being so damn nice all the time. The opposition wants us to go away. But I think I'll just get louder. :smashy:

This is exactly where I am right now as well. I LOVED the no more 'nice gay' poster, and it's something I've been grappling with in the past two days or so. For years I have been stating that the way to go about justice was to refuse to participate in a "war," and create a just and peaceful society by not participating in such.

However, I now believe I was mistaken. If "war" has been declared, the only non-harmful position available to take then is to fight justly for justice. To continue to play "nice" because "they" get offended when we defend either ourselves or our loved ones is actually a decision that contributes to the kind of social violence we all just witnessed.

We will get nowhere tolerating an overreaching intolerance that vitiates the rights of fellow citizens to equal protection of the law. We must call it out for what it is in no uncertain terms.

Oh btw folks, the LA gay and lesbian center has a fundraiser going on right now to legally invalidate prop 8 in which all donations generate a postcard addressed to the president of the Mormon church and thanking him for (inadvertently) generating funds to fight for marriage equality.

that the people of California have opened a can of worms that they will wish that they hadn't. We have been hearing and hearing that gay marriage should be determined at state levels and I believe it is because they do not want it to go to the Supreme Court. However, now that is where it just might end up. Historically, The US Supreme Court has ruled in the favor or non-discrimination, whether that be in Woman's Civil rights, Black Civil rights, Loving Vs. Virginia, Lawrence Vs. Texas, or Roe Vs Wade. If it gets to the Supreme Court the judgment will have to come from within the confines of the constitution not a religious belief. Without even knowing it, the Prop 8 people may have just given all of us equal rights down the road.

We will never go away nor will we stop being gay. We are here to stay, and if you don't like it, go live in Topeka, Kansas with Fred Phelps. Gays rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
