I am just pissed!!!!

Allow me just to vent for a minute...

I am a 6th grade teacher and I have a GT class. Of 26 students, about 19 of them are labeled GT. The rest are Honors caliber. One of these kids has a nightmare parent. By that I mean, this mother is your worst nightmare. She tells me at Open House in Sept. that she wanted to know if there were any problems and she would address them. The first nine weeks, he did great. No behavior problems really and had really good grades. But he made friends with this other little guy and I suspect they were helping each other with answers and whatever else. So I moved him away and put him up front and since then his behavior has gone downhill quickly. So I let the mother know, like she asked me to. Well, instead of discussing the problem at hand-his behavior-she wants to bitch about the amount of homework he has, and projects from last grading period and how much time I spend in front of the class teaching and whatever else she can dream up to gripe about. Everything but his behavior!

Sometimes I wish these parents would just shut the hell up and let me do my job! This mother acts like she has been in the classroom and knows what goes on. She doesn't. She is a stay home mom and doesn't have a life-except to make my life hell.

I know this has nothing to do with anything, but I need to vent. I will probably have to deal with her the rest of the year and I am not looking forward to this. :mad:

The way teachers are treated in this country is appalling!

The only encouraging thing that I can think of would be to ... "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."

She may be a crazy woman with nothing better to do. Or perhaps there is a lot more going on. Maybe she just found out her husband was cheating on her and couldn't handle the stress of he son acting out. Maybe she doesn't want to be unemployed, but can't get a job.

No matte what, she should not be treating you that way... but try to give her the benefit of the doubt, it will make your job easier.

Thanks Scott and Jenn, I really appreciate it. Her husband is rather laid back, but she also asked why I was teaching "Buddhism". I said, "Because it is a part of Texas curriculum in Social Studies to teach how religion affects a culture. Besides, I do have a Buddhist child in my classroom." To which she retorted, "Well the majority is Christian so you should be focusing on that!" I said, "Well Asia is the continent we are focusing on, and they are NOT Christian. Most are either Taoist, Buddhist or followers of Confucianism." And she said, "Well I don't see how any of that is relevant." I said, "We live in a country that respects no one particular church, that's in the First Amendment." She had no reply. Now we are studying Hinduism and then when we get to the Middle East, they will have to compare Islam, Judaism and Christianity. That ought to be fun!

I thought, you know that is the problem with this country. Too many people want to insert their religious beliefs into law and the First Amendment clearly prohibits that.

I heard nothing from her today, so we will see if she will call a conference. I hope she does.

Sorry she is such an idiot. Just because she has a gifted child, does not mean she never needs to disipline. I get the same thing with disabled children. People think that children on each end of the spectrum don't need to have real world consequences I guess.

Aparently she just feels that you need to fix life for her. I agree with Scotty, may she smoke a turd in Hell. People don't seem to give teachers much respect.

She hasn't called the front office to arrange a conference and hell if I am going to call and beg her to come up for it. Just because she has her panties in a wad, doesn't make it my problem. If she was all fired up and bothered about "taking up for my son", she would have called right then and arranged for a conference. But I guess it ain't that important to her. All she really wants to do is bitch because she doesn't have a life except through her husband and 4 boys. Still not my problem. And I ain't making it mine.
