Gay 23 yo male atheist in Calgary AB canada. I although follow no religious path in life i am warmed in my heart by the community this site provides. coming from a very conservative province i believe educating people on important issues is the true way to get a point across. i respect all who have different views then i, and truly feel honoured to live in a day in age where such a site is possible. i look forward to many interactions with various personalities who share the true meaning of love and life. xoxo

I would like to wish you a warm welcome. Please join in the discussions and let us know more of your thoughts and insights.
I think you are right when you say that education is the way to get points across. I think some people are closed-minded because thay have chosen to be that way. However, when it comes to the issue of gay-rights, I think most people have no malice against LGBT individuals; they just have never have had the chance to look into the issue. And of course we can't force people to change thier minds; they will have to do that themselves. Education is the key.
And I love the area around Calgary. When I first went into the Canadian Rockies I was awestruck. (And I live in the mountains of Colorado so I am used to beautiful mountain scenery.) My boyfriend and I were talking about visiting the Canadian Rockies one day. Now we can crash at your house for a couple of months. :D
Seriously, though, great to have you with us.

Hi Kevin!
Greetings from a straight woman in Regina, Saskatchewan, who supports the GLBT community. Yeah, I know it's hard to be gay in Alberta. My sister lives in Calgary and talks about how conservative it is there.
If you ever come to Regina, check out the GLCR Club in the downtown. (GLCR = Gay and Lesbian Community of Regina.) It's the place with the big rainbow sign on Broad Street, between Victoria Ave. and 13th Ave. It's kind of a small intimate place where people can hang out and discuss politics, life, the universe and everything over drinks. It has a lounge area and a nightclub/dance floor area.
I've had a membership for a couple of years, and the people there are great.
Best wishes to you!

I read your post title as in like "we put the K in Calgary" and got confused for 30 seconds. It made me giggle and I wanted to share that with you. :)
Welcome.
