Who participated in Join the Impact's national DOMA protest today?
We had about a couple hundred here at a rally in Phoenix by the state Capitol. It was beautiful! A couple of news cameras were there, but I don't know if the stations are actually airing the story - hope so.
Did you attend a rally in your area? Have any pics?

Ohio was supposed to have one central rally in Columbus, but it was cancelled because of the white death. Somebody needs to remind organizers in the west that we have this thing called "winter" over here, and it makes everything unpredictable, especially when people are supposed to drive in from all over the state.

Ohhhhh my.
Yeah, simultaneous national demonstrations rarely work out because the country has so many different weather patterns.
I remember how unhappy I was that Soulforce/Atticus pushed the 7 Straight Nights back into September because everyone in my area would risk heat stroke. In 2007, 7 Straight Nights was in mid-October, and we in Phoenix endured 105F degree heat that day. Meanwhile, the northerners froze.
So, the DOMA protest. Yeah. We lounged outside in the sun today, reveling in the cool January weather. It was about 67F degrees. Intense sun. I even thought about it as I headed over to the rally site, that it's such a good thing this protest was in January while it's still possible to be outside. 4 more months MAX and people like me will be unable to participate in outdoor rallies until October.
I guess when a national event like this gets planned, local organizers should take over and refine it into something that will be feasible with the peculiarity of each area. For Ohio, something like this should have probably been held inside. Then again, I don't see how that would help if the roads were impassable.
Hmmm - maybe a coordinated visibility gesture across the state? Like, rainbow flags simultaneously appearing in every LGBT and allied household? I dunno, it's been a long day and I'm starting to really ramble and get nonsensical here.
Signing off now.

There was supposed to be a protest at the capital in Raleigh today at 1:30 but Raleigh is a two-hour drive and they also had the governor's inauguration parade today in Raleigh and I didn't want to get tied up in all that traffic.
And also...I slept late.

There was a last minute planned action here in Sac. We didn't make it out, but I printed off the petition and information and am signing, getting a few other signatures and mailing off to Jointheimpact tomorrow. I haven't heard how the Sac DOMA protest went yet.
