Hey Steve, I found your blog entry (1/23) about going to different churches very interesting. So, where this Sunday? And what was your opinion?

I played for a Methodist service, so it was a bit tougher to "observe". I will say that it was not a very good service, but the organist was excellent!
in this case, the term "frozen chosen" applies; the sanctuary was freezing. it's a huge cavern of a church and there were only about 50 people there for the service. they are barely staying alive. they can hardly afford to heat the place.
their minister recently left to join the service. and they are working on a plan for an interim until appointments are made and they receive a new pastor. The speaker, a layspeaker from another church, was terrible. I suspect that he's had no training in writing a decent sermon. Near the end, it sounded like he just threw in a bunch of personal testimony, but it was less of a story and more of "I want to serve God and help people be 'born again' and lead people to Jesus and get to know 'him' better...."
Once again, I felt like the service had some features that might have been good once or twice, but now don't seem to serve a purpose. It looks like they use a lot of "service" music that is the same week after week.
I'll be playing there again next week.

You've got a knack for finding interim preachers.

I'll let you know how it goes next sunday. someone from the regional office was there yesterday to inform the congregation of their plan for the next 5 months. there will be 3 retired ministers taking care of this congregation and I think they said all 3 will be there next sunday to get things off to a good start. It's also communion sunday, so these guys will be there to make sure the congregation receives communion.
it could be an interesting sunday. 3 preachers in 1 sanctuary.

Triple dog dare you to ask for prayer for whoever left you that gift a few weeks ago. (Assuming you never want to go back, of course.)
