Hey! My name is Abbey. I live in New Jersey but attend college at Eastern University in PA. I am currently a freshman majoring in Sociology with a minor in Gender Studies. My father is an American Baptist pastor and my brother is gay. I've been very active in trying to create equality in the gay community. My junior year in high school I helped start a GSA. My senior year I was basically the president of the GSA. While I was attending high school, our GSA was not approved by the administration. We could meet but we were not an "official" club. We still aren't. Now that I am in college, I attend Refuge. I attend a Christian University. We cannot call refuge a "gsa" because they don't like the terminology. Therefore we are not an "official" club. We have no funding. We can meet and have events, but it comes out of our own pocket. I plan to find a career working with Christian gay and lesbian youth. I want to make sure that they know that God loves them. God made them the person they are and NOTHING can break them away from God's love for them. I want them to know that they can be a Christian and at the same time not be afraid of being who they are. I am very glad to join Soulforce and really hope someday I will be able to join Equality Ride.

sorry that was long :D

with love,
Abbey

Hey Abbey,

It's awesome to hear what you're doing for the lgbt community! Your brother is lucky to have you (I hope the rest of the family accepts him?). Welcome, and bright blessings!

It's nice to have straight allies in the fight for LGBT eguality. Somehow, homophobic people find straight people more believable than gay people, when it comes to talking about the lives of gay people. I mean, go figure.

Well, welcome to our forums. Express yourself, and meet the people.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Welcome to the site, Abbey. Your intro brought joy to my heart. I am a transgender person who shares with transgender people that God loves them. Thank you for wanting to bring God's love to lgbt community. Your brother is blessed to have a loving and accepting sister.

Welcome Abbey! It is always encouraging to hear that there are people like you out there! I was impressed when you mentioned that you have been a big part of these unofficial GSA clubs, even though they are not aloud. It shows that you don't take the easy way out of things and that you are willing to fight for what you think is right.

I hope that you stick around the forums and join in on some of the conversations.

Wow! You sound amazing. I was interested in Eastern University, but decided on a different college ultimately. I hear that is where Shane Claiborne went, and I know Tony Campolo is somehow involved there. Well, welcome! Many blessings on you from Christ our Lord!

Grace and Peace.
