...to air a one-hour program entitled, "Silencing Christians."
Guess who it's directed at?
You can read more at www.towleroad.com
...and I recommend that you do.

I wanted to be interested, in a "know what they're saying about us" kinda way, but it's an HOUR LONG. Couldn't bring myself to watch it online.

Focus on the Family donated so much money for Prop 8 that they had to lay off 20% of their workers.
Looks like they'll do anything to stop "those gays" from marrying- even hurting their own employees.

Hi Duskmelt!
"Focus on the Family donated so much money for Prop 8 that they had to lay off 20% of their workers.

What's the big deal about gay marriage? The term "gay lifestyle" tends to be associated with promiscuity, right? So if some gay couples are in a committed enough relationship that they want to get married, don't freaking complain!
I think that Christian conservatives have a zero-sum mentality. They're afraid that if "those people" get more rights, then "we" are going to lose something. I suspect that there's also an unspoken assumption that gays are inferior and therefore don't deserve to have equal rights.
Christian conservatives have been feeling under siege for a couple of decades. They're deathly afraid of losing their "rightful place" at the top of society. I can understand the Focus on the Family crowd worrying about the "gay agenda". It's easy to believe that opponents are trying to "take over the system" when you're busy trying to "take back the system".
BTW, if anyone out there watches that show, can you post a little info on what it's about? I would like to see some observations and comments.
Thanks!

Offog--
It's pretty much what you'd expect; Christians, of course, are being horribly persecuted by gays who want to be treated fairly in the job market (Shock!) and in housing (Horrors!) and generally otherwise in society. (Uh...never mind the slightly inconvenient fact that some Christians *are* gay.) And of course, we just can't have this. There's really nothing new in the show; it's just a newly-made program of the same old nonsense.
This is nothing other than the side guily of *doing* the persecuting falsely claiming that it's going to "lose their rights" if queer folks are treated fairly.

To Offog-
Preaching to the choir. It totally seems like a power struggle. "Silencing Christians"? Well no one is trying to silence them. Neither do some Christians agree with them. However, looking at the title, and just the title we see what they truly believe.
To Wanderer-
Maybe it's the same old, same old. However perhaps we should watch it to see what some people are thinking.

They tried it here in Michigan, running a program but the tv stations would not run it. I say its hard to believe that they think they are being silenced, they have never been silent!

Focus on the Family has evidently launched a major campaign against our (the NDHRC) senate bill 2278, a GLBT rights bill for North Dakota. They really ramped up efforts the other day when the bill unanomously passed the sub committee. The full senate votes on this bill in the next 2 days. If you haven't already you may want to view my post on this bill and email senators in support of the bill, countering some of what this distructive focus on family is trying to do.

What family does this group focus on? Love makes a family. They seem to make those of us want to commit suicide to make them happy. I pray:pray:they wake up and accept the true love of God (or whatever you consider your higher power). They truly are OXYMORONS!

And have you heard of the terrible things that have been happening to those good, upstanding Christians in Massachusetts? Well, no, I guess I haven't either.
Well, I should still be saying Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

I never understood why fundies think that gay marriage is a threat to hetero marriage. Gay people love hetero marriage. It is our bread and butter. All those weddings support all the gay wedding planners, hairdressers, designers, photographers, video people, caterers, farmers, hotel people, b&b owners, I could go on and on.........

Focus on the family has been divorced from what it means to be Christian for a long time. If you to show them what it means to love unconditionally, they would shun you and call you a "Gay Activist". People are becoming sick of the far right more and more, not only because people are starting to see us more and more as human beings, but the fact FOF gets in you face and shoves their ideology down your throat. Which in all honesty turns people off. So I like to equate them to
Richard the 3rd,
... But then I sigh; and, with a piece of Scripture,
Tell them that God bids us do good for evil:
And thus I clothe my naked villany
With odd old ends stol'n forth of holy writ;
And seem a saint when most I play the devil.--...
