We've talked about that several times but we don't seem to have the technology for that ... or something ... anyway it never seems to happen.

I dont think it would be that hard to do it. I think the main reason could be that they would have to get ppl to monitor the chat rooms 24/7 and heated convos could get started in the chat rooms

With the economic crises, we've had to cut our webmaster position to a half time position, there's no way we could expand to have chat rooms at this point in time. Our staff is very small, underpaid and overworked. We love what we do, but there's no way we can expand to chat rooms any time in the near future, if we're going to continue to confront the heterosexism that is so rampant. That has to be our first priority.

We always appreciate people's suggestions, but please understand just how small a staff we have. Kara

You could set up an unofficial soulforce chatroom on Yahoo, MSN, or some other network. Then you, or whoever you chose, would need to monitor it. Me, chatrooms make me uncomfortable. It is too easy to say something wrong because you didn't stop to think before you typed.

Is there a reason to do it in a chat program and not just set up a chat thread here?

I think we just concluded that it wasn't the best place for a chat-room?

Sweet Kara, you and the rest of the Soulforce staff are completely incredible! I agree that we should not ask anything else of any of you.

I definitely like that idea better!

Hmm... interesting idea. What are some other opinions about this idea?

I was actually thinking about this yesterday and I was thinking of starting a thread about it. I really like the format of facebook's chat. However, I decided not to start a thread because the more I thought of it the more I felt that it may ruin part of what's so special about these forums. I think that Brian made a good point about people not thinking before they post and I think that would be a real threat to what we have, which is heart-felt and considerate conversations.

As Kara mentioned, this wouldn't be something that could happen in the immediate future either way. But how to other people feel about this idea?

I vote no to chat-rooms.
