Hi,

My name is Claire and I'm from Houston. I graduated from Rice University and am going to be starting Baylor this fall for an MSW and Masters of Divinity. I learned about Soul Force by looking at the student organizations at Baylor and coming to the sad realization that there aren't any formal GLBT support groups at Baylor. This seems really out of the blue to me because Rice had so many and I have so many gay or lesbian or transgender friends that are extremely religious. I guess I shouldn't be surprised because Baylor is super conservative (I was appalled at the arrest for chalking the sidewalks), but still- it just seems so wrong not to have any formal outlet.

Welcome, Claire.

Rice had so many LGBT groups? When I was there, I only knew of one, and I think it was the only one. (I graduated in 99, and it was just called something like the LGB group.) How many are there now?

Anyway, I am NOT surprised to hear that about Baylor.

I love Houston and still miss it often.
Glad to hear from someone back in my old adopted 'hometown.'

Welcome to the site, Claire. Rice University is in Houston, right? I know Baylor is in Waco. Maybe you could start something there. I'm sure there are glbt students at Baylor.
