THIS (IS) NOT A TEST
(It is another interactive, chance to shine ... You get to show your RIGHT hemisphere on the 'Originals' thread, now lets see whats LEFT...)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many of the more psychological/theological threads that get started, conclude knotted up with discussion about the meaning of some key words. I take some of the credit/blame for what some may feel to be redundant nit-picking or a failure to keep focused on the big picture.... This is an effort to not so much get everyone on the same page, but possibly clarify which book we are coming from. It may be interesting to see how we each view core ideas, where we share common ground and where we are light years apart. If you think this is just a pointless sidetracking, remember we recently had a President try to cast defensive doubt on what the meaning of "IS" is.
The Rules
If you want to partake, please copy the list of words below. Then simply Define them. To keep your definitions free of the brilliant influences that are easy to agree with on this forum, DO NOT POST YOUR DEFINITIONS ON THIS THREAD, just yet. Do not bother with a dictionary, as they are all familiar words. Take the time to contemplate what they mean to you, how you apply them, how you see them affect the world and the various missions of activism. They may take a bit of soul searching... THEN, in about a week, (next Wednesday, May 10th) I will post a new thread for the definitions you have come up with... You may be able to edit and refine your reply as other post their list, but please save that part for any follow-up. The point of this may be to reach more of an agreement, but we should see where the differences are first.
Some of these words are hot button issues that have already devoured numerous threads, and they won't be resolved here. But we may get closer. Others are by nature abstract and defy being defined. Say as much and have fun with them (if this is your kind of thing). And think of words you would like to see on a future list...
1. Violence
2. Nonviolence
3.Love
4.Fear
5.Enemy
6.Dogma
7.Tolerance
8.Sin
9.Open mind
10.Belief
11.God
12.Self
13.Forgive
14. (other. what one word are you surprised I missed?)
...an even bakers dozen. Not too long, but heavy, and they trigger recurring, contentions misunderstandings. If this is of no help to the group, or you choose not to respond, the focus and inner contemplation needed to sort some of these out may serve their purpose more inwardly, and can be just as effective if kept private.
REMEMBER: DO NOT POST YOUR DEFINITIONS ON THIS THREAD! A follow up thread will be created for them in one week. (May 10th)
Though feel free to post any general thoughts about this idea before then. Suggestions on how to narrow and focus definitions that fight being boxed in would probably be appreciated...
Thanks for playing..........................
