My husband's church

My husband has been attending a small church that meets in a YMCA gym. His co-worker friend tuned him into this church. It is Orthodox Presbyterian. I went to a few services with him but no longer do so. Why do I not attend it? They are conservative and patriarchal - no female clergy or female higher offices and not gay friendly. I sit through the sermons mentally picking it apart. I am not comfortable in such a church.
I attend an early morning Sunday School class at a UM church, then come back home so my husband can go to his church. We only have one car. It is not possible for me to find a progressive church here in the Dallas area because of time and transportation issues. It may get better during the summer when he changes his work hours to avoid some of the Texas heat.

:confused: My dad attends a fundamentalist Christian church in our local town that isn't gay friendly, either, and so far, I don't see any women taking on any leadership roles within the church except to teach Sunday School. I attended church regularly with my dad for about a year and a half but now don't go very often anymore because I feel very disillusioned by the whole system. We are all created equal in God's eyes, every one of us, but conservative Christians don't take that to heart I guess because they continue to shun gays and treat women as second-class citizens. Once again, this proves that it's okay to be who you are only as long as you agree with everything and conform to what is considered to be acceptable Christian behavior. :(

i was wondering if your husband went your church with his christian beliefs would he be comfortable that homeseuality is preached as ok i wonder if he was in your church and his being uncomfortable matters to you also he is yoru head and christ is his head i would say you and him need to talk. maybe comprimise you be a testimony for you r pro gay and listen to there sermons at his chursh then next time he can do the same at yours. do all things in prayer

Hello fmdrd- welcome to the forum. The original poster on this thread- Bellview- notes that she has been sitting through sermons at her husband's church, and that he has a hard time doing so because those sermon's are not "gay friendly" or friendly to women. As such, her testimony is speaking loud and clear already.

It is my impression that Bellview came here to unburden herself. Other than submitting herself to her husband, what do you suggest she do to deal with the homophobia at her husband's church?

My paternal grandparents went to churches that were across the highway from each other throughout their 70+ year marriage. There were some compromises.

If you're open to a different perspective we have more than one center in Dallas TX.
