The NOM will be airing a new fear ad which portrays Americans of all creeds stating how they are afraid of gay marriage and what a threat it poses to them. It's absolutely disgusting- it plays on the fears of the watchers with no credible threat in actuality. They even use the icon of the rainbow against us. I have plenty to say against this abomination, but I would be preaching to the choir.

Hate to dissapoint them, but the sky isn't falling in Massachussets or Conneticut, and Vermont voted to include equality in its constitution. Nor has the sky fallen the 6 countries that allow Gay Marrige, Spain, Canada, Belgum, South Africa, Norway and the Netherlands. Iowa will learn that gay marriage is a good thing especially all of the money they're going to be making off weddings. Also people get over things rather quickly. You can change the Iowa Constituion as quickly, It takes 2 years to change it and by the time you can intruduce another doma people will have forgotten why they are so afraid.

I would just like to see them try to get this kind of BS on the main TV stations.
You might have gotten away with this 10 years ago but not now.

The Young Turks covered it as well. What I'd like to know is how the bloody heck doctors are forced to choose between their beliefs and their jobs on this issue. Unless your beliefs include being an rectal sphincter for no good reason, there is absolutely no conflict of interest.

For the record, I support the rejection of polyester. It's tacky and uncomfortable.

Um, they got this crap on mainstream TV here in CA to get Prop 8 passed. On all the main channels. Using all the usual lies. They will get it done in other states.

So, we need to be ready to respond. Not to go on the defensive but to open the curtain to the lies and deceit of the anti-marriage equality people. If we don't get our ads and videos out there, then this will basically go unchallenged, just like Prop 8 and will have a chance of being effective.

The good thing is the opponents to gay rights have really already lost. Maybe not for the short term but in the long term. The younger, more enlightened generation is taking over and will vote in human rights including gay marriage because they don't care about the bigotry and ignorance fueled BS of previous generations. And from then on there will be marriage equality and rights for both heterosexual and homosexual people alike. All the inconsequential arguments of whether something is a choice or inborn will go out the window and the more important issue of eliminating discrimination for large groups of people will prevail. I give it about another ten years before it changes for the better throughout the United States.

I love all the ads fighting back; I would like to see one that says something like:
I'm a doctor who is forced to treat Black, Hispanic and Asian patients or risk losing my job.
I'm a mother who stands by as her son is taught that interracial marriage is acceptable.

For dramatic effect they could even pull on a white hood after they speak.
This ad is totally something I could see the KKK put out.

Any relationship that does not have one man and one woman will always be Less Than...I am so tired of being less than!!!

I loved all the comments and videos. Great work everybody!

I think it was a week or two ago that the Colbert Report did a parody of the "Gathering Storm" ad. I wish I could remember some of the lines from it, but I killed myself laughing. Stephen Colbert is so good at making fun of gay bashers. I don't know how many shows I've seen where's he made comments about "the gay agenda" and how gay marriage is "a threat to my happy marriage".

I think a lot of the opposition to gay marriage is based on the conservative zero-sum mentality. It's a fear that if "those people" (women, non-white people, gays) get more rights, then "we" are going to lose rights.

Also, Christian conservatives have been feeling under siege for a couple of decades. They think they have a literal God-given right to run the world, and they're deathly afraid that they've been pushed aside from their "rightful place". Fear often leads to anger. Where do think all that hate comes from, eh?

In the "multiple personality lady" video, she noted that one in ten people is gay. That reminds of something that happened in the Saskatchewan Legislature back in the late 1970s. It was during Allan Blakeney's New Democratic Party (NDP) administration. The Conservatives (Tories) were the Official Opposition. I'm kinda fuzzy on the details because I was a teenager then, but it went something like this.

A Tory guy confronted Premier Blakeney about a news report that said one in ten men is gay. So that means one of the cabinet ministers must be gay, right? So fess up - which one is it?!

If any Saskatchewan person out there remembers this, please jump in.

Go online to http://www.colbertnation.com and you can watch the whole episode. I don't remember what day it was either but it was in the week of April 13. It really was priceless!

Unless everything I'm hearing is wrong, it appears this latest attempt to squash marriage equality may be backfiring. At best it's barely up to a slight sizzle. Seems like even the anti-gay folks can't take this one seriously. It was hyped (by NOM) to be the largest effort to save 'traditional marriage', calling for 2 million activists nation wide and putting Frank Schubert (who led the Yes on 8 campaign) in charge. The hope is to bring marriage equality to a vote (like Prop 8) and 'win back tradition marriage' to Vermont and Iowa.

Sounds to me like it's starting to fade fast. I guess we'll have to wait and see what this group does after the commercials have failed.

Lol that actually made me laugh.
Sigh...they have freewill, leave them too it and leave this up to God to sort out and forgive every last one of them I say...Theyre just misguided, in the same way that they believe we are misguided. Who is correct we will find out on the day of judgement when wisdom is proved right by her actions.
I cant help feel were on the winning side.

This is a SERIOUSLY powerful response. Wow. One almost feels like one should THANK NOM for making their stupid video and creating a vehicle for the message of equality.

Gives a whole new meaning to "Pissing into the wind" I'm pretty sure those folks "got some on them". :)

:) I guess anyone who does NOT conform to anything that fundamentalist Christians and the Religious Right believe is normal and acceptable behavior for a Christian (meaning fundamentalist, not liberal or mainstream ideals) is classified as subhuman, huh? Slaves, African-Americans, Jews, women, unborn children (yes, I oppose abortion, but I do NOT support the idea that women should be denied control over their own bodies), gays and lesbians, etc, are all classified as subhuman by these so-called Christians (except for unborn children) just because they are all different and don't conform to the so-called "American ideal." I admit, however, that these very same fundamentalist Christians don't seem to care much for the infant after the infant is born, because they don't support any of the social service programs that care for the poor, the needy, and the homeless. I would suggest, then, that the poor, the needy, and the homeless would also be catagorized as subhuman, too, huh? What is Christian love when you focus on groups of people you believe are threats to society because they are different and don't conform or agree with your agenda while totally ignoring the real needs and issues of society, which is to care for and seek justice for those who are oppressed? Makes you wonder, doesn't it, what these fundamentalist Christians and the Religious Right movement are really after? YIKES!!!!!

Just a week or so ago my state :D has passed legislation for same sex couples to enjoy more rights. However, PROP 71  (if it gets enough signatures) will be on the ballot in November and take away many of these rights. We move one step further to equality and they (those people:() try to move us back.:confused::confused::confused::disa gree:

They called is the 'everything but marriage' bill or law or whatever. I was surprised we couldn't just skip to equal marriage rights, but it's a good start. :agree:
