Hello, all. My name's Lizzy and I'm from Clarksville, TN. I'm kind of going crazy because during the last few years, after graduating college in 2005, I haven't really been able to be as involved as I want to be. I just joined the Tennessee Equality Project, but Tennessee doesn't seem to have much going on. I'm hoping to find some other folks/groups around the Nashville area that are active.
I was born and raised a Methodist and, while I love my church family, I find myself getting aggravated with some official UMC policies. At the same time I don't really feel like I'm ready to leave my church. The pastor was amazing when my father was dying and he and his wife, along with a good majority of the congregation, are really close to our family so it's a really tough situation.
Ideally, I'd like to try and see just how open they are. I'm thinking they're all pretty inclusive when it comes down to it so, you know, I think there's some real potential here. There's never been a problem welcoming gay and lesbian singles or couples so I think we're in a great place to move forward. I'm just not sure what the first real step would be.
Other than that, I am an independent consultant for Pink Papaya, taking a break from grad school where I'm studying lit, and I'm the mommy of a 3 year old yorkie mix named Gracie, a 2 and a half year old pit bull mix named Omahyra, a 2 year old lhasa apso named Jon Jon and a teeny little chihuahua mix who is 14 months old named Pixie. I have a soft spot for mutts and rescues. Especially bullies . . . they are my weakness.
So, if anyone wants to chat, if anyone knows of anyone or any group in Nashville that needs help, please let me know!
Have a great night!
