I'd say gay "marriage" (or whatever we call it) is inevitable nationwide, probably within 5 years... The visibility and marketing and home hitting familiarity of being out and open in our daily lives, will cause society as a whole to finally "get used to it"... It is happening quickly and anyone in their thirties should be astounded at the change... It is those who take offense at the "that's so gay" pseudo-slam, who look like the hyper-sensitive jerk who should know no one cares much any more (but for the fundi-Christians who are going obsolete anyway)... The torch has passed.
More and more I hear young people ask in a sort of disdainful confusion "why identify as gay"? "Why label yourself in some box, dude?" Why is a complex, usually difficult answer involving history and struggle and the oppression we did a good job of keeping them ignorant of...and won't get much credit for when it works... (ah,...irony).
But why we are "proud" of surviving as homosexuals, isn't the topic. Why they ask, why it is so passé to even sweat it anymore, will like everything, be a mixed bag and double edged sword...
Will it be because the hateful Christians who misunderstood and preached hell-fire and fear have enlightened to their own evil? Or because a new, active atheism and neo-paganism that easily falls in love with genderless "souls" and thinks "it's just sex" is a moral triumph, has become mainstream? Will we be accepted as the misunderstood victims and rarities who've fought for our rights and freedoms to just be treated like humans, or will we be absorbed in a post-modern "if it feels good do it" bisexuality that touts it's unjudged lust as making love, not war?
Is our struggle about to be swept under a tidal wave of a new sexual revolution?
