Last night I discussed transgender and Christianity with my bible fellowship group. It was an overwhelming success. There were many questions asked and I was able to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
I opened up the discussion defining the many transgender terms. I explained that 'transgender' is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or expression differs from their birth sex. I mentioned that the term may include transsexuals, crossdressers, gender queer, gender non-conforming and other gender-variant people.
I had the most questions about transition and Gender Identity Disorder. I explained that transitioning is a complex prcedure that occurs over a long period of time. I shared that not all transgender choose to have Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS).
I was able to explain what Gender Identity Disorder is and the current controversy with the medical and psychological establishments about changing the present prognosis that is used.
I shared the events of my life that led to discovering that I was a crossdresser and a transgender person. I shared that a person can be Christian and transgender because God doesn't show any favoritism.
The discussion was a huge success and eyes and minds were opened. I pray that I can do this at other places.

How wonderful Gennee! This truly warms my heart and increases my hope for some of this increasingly stupid and mean world... It is amazing and profoundly moving to see when God turns our almost intolerable anguish into a unique, needed knowledge, sharp insights, empathy and a light shining compassion for other people to learn and grow from... It sounds like you serve Him well and will be used as a Godsend for those souls who are where you once were, and need to hear your story... very inspiring.

I'm so glad things worked out so well. Lots of straight people think gays and lesbians are okay, but that transgendered people are creepy. I guess this is a sign that we're making some progress.
BTW, one of my drinking buddies at my gay club, Brad, often talks about the stuff he's had to take because of being gay. He's a retired civil servant and he feels that being gay hurt his career, even though he wasn't out, at least not at work. Once a supervisor called Brad into the office and told him that if he wanted to advance his career, he would have to get married. (Well, if people see a middle-aged guy who isn't married and doesn't have a girlfriend, I guess they wonder.)
Despite having suffered for being gay, Brad is totally bigoted against drag queens. He's flat out said that they're disgusting. (Did I mention that Brad's politics are slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun?) I find it weird that he can be so hard on people who have to put up with a lot of the same crap he does. What do you make of this?

All human beings carry within themselves an ever-unfolding idea of who they are and what they are capable of achieving. The individual's sense of self is not determined by chromosomal sex, genitalia, assigned birth sex, or initial gender role. Thus, the individual's identity and capabilities cannot be circumscribed by what society deems to be masculine or feminine behavior. It is fundamental that individuals have the right to define, and to redefine as their lives unfold, their own gender identities, without regard to chromosomal sex, genitalia, assigned birth sex, or initial gender role.
God accepts all people, and that's one thing for sure.. And when it comes to friendships, I put no boundaries when it comes to what they are.. as long as this person is godd and always have the ears to listen to every problems and stories.. that's what matters..

It's sad :(, really. Brad's taking out on drag queens what he had to put up with. If he got married , he was probably miserable and so was his mate. His boss threw him a bone which has no basis as to someone's ability. I have known single people at various ages who are much more mature than a lot of married couples.
