Warning- The link below is quite offensive. At the same time I find it quite funny!

Those are pretty funny... I think that an impressionable pre-teen/teenager could be pretty freaked out by them, though.

I totally agree Nathan. These could be very harmful to some people.

I don't think it's funny at all that people see things in such a way.
That makes me feel terribly sad.

It was funny when I thought it was a parody, then I realized I’d seen those little booklets littered throughout LA when I lived there.
That's some sick stuff. That must be how they look at us when we make fun of them.

I've seen some of these before. My dad even had some when I was a kid. I was always, and still am, struck by the oversimplification of the topics.
"I'm not going to fight God anymore. what should I do?" as if this minister, after having studied for years, really doesn't have a clue and needs to be led. As if the many different types of christianity were not part of his training, this guy hears one word and falls on his knees to renounce not only his religion, but his homosexuality as well.
They are funny to so many people. But they are damaging to unsuspecting people who may read them and think that this is what God really has to say, and really wants for their lives.

check out Birds and the Bees (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1052/1052_01.asp) It's supposed to be geared for school kids.
Take a look around the site, and you'll find one called The Gay Blade (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0084/0084_01.asp)
very sad.

Keltic,
I remember the one called, "The Gay Blade". The copyright on it says 1984, but I remember it way back in 1972 when I was a Christian fundamentalist.
Even back then I tought the tract was silly. And it sure didn't stop me from coming out of the closet 2 years later.

...but these depictions sure did. Frightening, as was previously said, that some persons actually view us in this way. I tried to make the point over at the UMC boards that, if young persons struggling with their orientation are exposed to stuff like this, it can aggravate their own self-hatred even more. I am willing to hear other viewpoints, but I think this is just a derogatory, inflammatory way to do it.. It depicts us not just as sinners, which I don't agree with but accept it as their viewpoint, but as persons who speak in a recruiting, derogatory manner to others, including children. I continue to be offended and saddened by these depictions. Yet when I express my concerns for the youth on the UMC boards, I was using hyperbole and exxagerating my point. I don't think religious figures in these powerful positions really want to acknowledge the power and the negative impact they could be having on youth that may be relying on them for unconditional support. That does those youths, and grownups who are struggling, a huge injustice. Sorry for the tirade, Peace to you all friends, Vanessa

what the heck is the city of Gezor? (from the gay blade)
what a time trying to find something about that!!!! Gezer (http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/History/Early%20History%20-%20Archaeology/Gezer%20-%20A%20Canaanite%20City%20and%20Royal%20Solomonic% 20City) it even mentions the "MacAlister" researcher at the end of the article. Nothing about what was found regarding same-sex activities.

and after a little more digging, I was able to find that cultic worship centered around worshipping Baal and Astarte (Ashtoreth) and included the sacrifices of children. A little more research about those idols and practices might give another clue of what was going on at Gezor/Gezer and why it would be mentioned in that little tract.

I'm looking forward to the day when these are museum pieces, just like the racist cartoonage of the 20s,30s and beyond ... they really are awful in so many ways, but I can't help but laugh.

I just can't laugh at these things. They are way too inflammatory - how is it different from Nazi tracts? It's dangerous propaganda.
Like Vanessa, I worry a great deal about what this says to youngsters, gay OR otherwise. Imagine some young kids exposed to this by the adults around them and then thinking its okay to go out and gay-bash because Dad and Uncle Joe say so and show them these cartoons? It's not far-fetched. This stuff is dangerous and I simply cannot find humor in it. It's too sick.

It's frightening to think that someone actually believes these cartoons enough to create them! I feel like they place us at a sub-human level...
quote from them:
"Average life expectancy for the male homosexual before AIDS was only 42 years because of venereal disease and violence. AIDS only reduced it to 39 years."
Wow... I know a few gay men over the age of 42 and I know there are a whole lot more that I don't know. I have no idea where these figures came from. It's true that sometimes there is abuse in relationships, but that's true of all couples. If anything, maybe the violence more likely to prematurely end a gay man's life is the homophobic kind as seen with Matthew Shephard...

How do you make a baby float?
Gallows humor...only way to explain it... Gawd it is crazy when they are so over the top to be self-humiliating, untouchably proud and no satire could do them justice. They are straight (pun intended) out of MAD Magazine from hell...
I too remember them from 'some' time ago, but bounce around that site and checkout their new products...(somebody stop them before they publish again!)
Okay, I Googled Chick, tracks, Mad, magazine, just to see (darn you schoolboi) and...
Let me apologize in advance for these links... I love well done bad taste (as some of have noted), and really, really, truly cherry on top am a Bible thumpin' Believer. But there is blasphemy, and then there is just funny (maybe repent worthy funny, but funny)... I know by now I can't always tell the difference...
God is not mocked... Let the mockers be revealed---
Laugh Tracts? (http://www.postfun.com/pfp/features/98/feb/jtchick.html)is a 'take' on one of the tracts... note the note on the elaboration of our plot, contained in the tract, where we are planning to contaminate the blood supply... "What you don't know about aids"... major yikes! >Video to come?
NOTE: This is the HOME PAGE to the link above. I would never direct anyone here to an "adult" site. I have looked around there and some of it is indeed spiritually and intellectually 'raw' and may offend some of you, but nothing I saw is pornographic in any way. No nudity, or foul language. If you disagree, let me know, or MODS, find it too inappropriate, by all means delete it with my blessing and apology. I post it in the same vein as the tracts. Comedy is in the eye of the beholder... (ooh, controversy) Click at your own risk: Adult Christianity (http://www.jesus21.com/content/index.php?s=about)
If you're hesitant, check this first. It is one of the "Bad Taste" silly items off the site. Baby Jesus Doll (http://www.babyjesusdoll.com/)and be sure to read the text...
If you like that: Miss Poppy (http://www.misspoppy.com/) (Betty Bowers materialistic sister ?) is the whole catalog... shop for truly guilty pleasures...
If this hadn't been put up by a Christian, it could've been construed as some sort of attack.:( Kind of like I can say 'fag' and they can't.... So now Buddhists... well, you're kinda hard to make fun of... set in stone doesn't quite apply or give as much to ridicule--- oh well, ENJOY(?) or censor ;)

We must be made of different stuff. I haven't looked at any of Awediot's links and if I'm a smart girl, I won't do that to myself.
WHY did I look at those "gay blade" tracks posted the other day? :(
This morning, I woke up at 4 a.m. from nightmarish visions of those tracts come to life in 3D, people on fire, etc. I actually felt sick when I saw the drawings of the two guys with the - were they supposed to be devils? They looked like giant grubs with faces? - crawling on their bodies, like that's what they want people to imagine gay people are like. That scares me!
Okay, I recognize y'all are having fun with this. I'll leave ya to it and pull outta this thread.

Oh Zerbie, our little 6.5 ft, 300 lb, hairy, inked muscle man...:lol::lol:
Yowza! nightmares... thats really no fun. Sorry.
...but don't fear my links. There is nothing near so graphic there, and it counters the tracts nicely (ie: its anti-fudementalist, no more anti-gay stuff) Much like rev tj's pope piece... In fact:
Bush and the Pope

Aw, you remembered my "self image."!!!!! :D
Heehee! :p
Yeah, I'm over-sensitive, and certain types of things lodge in and stay with me and are hard to get rid of, like those horrible images in Gay Blade and similar. :(
So I finally noticed that your links were for Betty Bowers and similar. Irreverent humor, but I usually enjoy that sorta thing. :p Now that I know your links are NOT more images of devil-ridden homosexuals being blinded and burned alive, I went ahead and clicked on 'em. I'm impressionable, NOT shockable. :D They're a bit "wrong", but they *are* amusing. Thanks. ;) All's good.
