To me, probably one of the most important things Wink says in this book is, "It is not unusual in a protracted struggle to experience bewilderment and even despair after each new measure taken by the Powers to crush rising opposition. That experience is not only characteristic, but a necessary precondition of creative response."

Surely most of us are struggling with despair as we watch state after state vote in marriage bans. But we have to use that to move on. We have to remember that wonderful scene in the movie "Romero," where it took the bishop three attempts before he was able to take back the church.

I'm so grateful for this wonderful little book. Back in the 60s many leftists, carried Mau Tse Tung's "little red book," this surely could be a book we carry with us! Kara
