My favorite quotes from Dr. King, come from his "Letter from a Birmingham Jail."
"We who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive."
"We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitrolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people."
"We are moving toward the exit of the twentieth century, with a religious community largely adjusted to the status quo, standing as a tail light behind other community agencies rather than a healdlight leading men to higher levels of justice."
"Far from being disturbed by the presence of the Church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the Church's silent and often vocal sanction of things as they are."
all quotes from "Letter from Birmingham City Jail," April 16, 1963

Oh that is good stuff. Thank you for posting this and reminding me of these thoughts. The appalling silence of good people? I know more than a few.
