Hi Everyone! I'm a Roman Catholic who grew up in a Fundamentalist home. I love the Catholic Church, but of course disagree with it's stance on homosexuality. I have recently come to terms with the fact that I'm gay, but have not "come out" to anyone yet. There are many priests who I know who will support me, and I plan to come out to one of them soon. However, my family and friends are all extremely conservative, and I fear what may happen if they find out.

I'm in my late 20's, have a good job, and have been living on my own and supporting myself for a few years now, but I'm just really scared that if my parents find out about me, that they will disown me. I love them and have a good relationship with them, however they are also EXTREMELY anti-gay (not quite as bad as Fred Phelps, but close).

Anyways, please pray for me that I would know how to proceed from here. I don't even have any gay friends yet, and am looking for other gay guys in my area who are committed to living a holy, gay lifestyle.

Dear Snoopy: I, too, am Catholic, but fortunately, I've found a wonderful Catholic parish, where I am fully out as a lesbian, and I also preach. So know that there is a place for you. Check out a group called, Fortunate Families, they're kind of a Catholic Family & Friends of Gays. You can reach them at: www.fortunatefamilies.com/

Just wanted to add here that I'm also Roman Catholic, a convert from a Pentecostal church. The DRE at my parish is one of the first people I came out to as bisexual. She was and is very supportive. I just wanted you to know, Snoopy, that there are supportive people in the Catholic church out there. I will certainly be praying for you.
