There are advantages to getting older despite what our relentless youth culture asserts. A friend of mine once said to me: "You don't have anything to teach before you reach your 40's." She was talking about the Big View of Things. When you start having younger people call you 'sir' or 'm'am" you know you've arrived.

Oh....my addled 47 year old brain didn't realize I had to ask a question after answering one! (What's your excuse PostGen?)
Favorite Number: 11 (my birth date)
Favorite Game: This is a hard one- not the gaming sort. Can I pass?
Day or Night: Depends on how late I stay up.
What I can't live without: Symmetry.
My Question: What are you curious about?
Zerbie

[QUOTE=DanielFavorite Number: 11 (my birth date)

Well, come on, the eleventh of what month? No good knowing the day if we don't know when to send you happy birthday missives. :p
Jennifer5
05-31-2006, 01:12 AM
You don't have to ask a question... it just seems to work well to keep it all going. Also, yes you can pass when you want.:)
Favorite Number: 5 (my birth date too... but no why it's my fav.)
Favorite Game: really anything... I just like being around people...
Day or Night: you would think I would have an anwser to my own question, but I don't know.
What I can't live without: diversity or family..... I wouldn't be able to hand people if they were all to much alike. and family, because no matter what 'family' means, they're always there to catch you when you fall.
What are you curious about?: finding a way to feed all the people in the world... because it has never made sense to me that some have so much when others have nothing... seems like a pretty stupid circle.
what attracts you to a person?
Jennifer5

My Question: What are you curious about?
I'm curious about what month your birthday is in!
Daniel
05-31-2006, 08:00 AM
That's true Daniel.:D What month?
From 1-Click Answers: July was renamed for Julius Caesar, who was born in that month. Previously, it was called Quintilis in Latin, since it was the fifth month in the Roman calendar which started in March. Because of its origin, until the 18th century this month's name was pronounced the same way as the name "Julie".
Julie? Julie Andrews? I knew there was a connection!
Question: Whom (who or whom? I tend to get this mixed up) do you admire and why?
Answer: Rene Pape. For beauty of tone and restoring my faith in singing.

What is the color of your bedroom?
My husband humored me by letting me- and helping me- paint it red. What a guy. We got the primer up, which was red itself, and found that, because of the northern light exposure and dimensions of the room, the effect wasn't the warm sexy thing I thought it would be: it made you feel like you were being buried alive. Now things are white as white can be. The insides of our tall bookcases in the living room are a spicey orange color though. You have to risk something somewhere.

Okay Keltic, I gotta ask: are we talking blue and white as in Penn State proud???? I couldn't let it go....
My temporary bedroom (the living room couch) is orange, and unlike Daniel's natural light effect on red experience, the sun allows the room to almost glow, and at night, it adds a darkness that is almost a comfort.

Y'all, this thread is cracking me up! Daniel, I almost DIED reading your description of the red wall. . .   And while I've got your attention, I'm curious what dream you have that hasn't "woken up"?? Maybe we can encourage you?
Okay - what have I missed? This is gonna skip around a bit but:
piercings: just 2. one per ear. haven't had my illusions done yet. ;)
bedroom: DARK ORANGE! Maybe that sounds horrible but it's really awesome - bedroom is in the northeast corner of the house and gets a lot of shade except at sunrise, and the dark walls help keep it feeling cool. Oh and, the paint is textured too, so it has a lot of depth. Looks terrific with dark dark brown (looks black) Copenhagen furniture.
Oh and, did I mention my bathroom wall is iridescent lime??:D
funny/scary movies: funny, definitely. My system maintains adrenaline way too often easily and long, so scary movies can spike it for hours. And oddly, movies that aren't necessarily very scary can scare me, like I watched The Butterfly Effect and it freaked me out so badly I had insomnia for weeks. So, I'll take funny, definitely. My fave movies are eccentric, weird things, usually foreign b/c Hollywood doesn't tend to make weird accentric films. (Like, Strictly Ballroom, Adventures of Priscilla, and even really weird stuff like Trois Vies et une Seule Mort)
hugs/kisses: Oh definitely hugs and cuddles. I love feeling someone else's body close that way, I love hugging my friends, but especially my sweetie!
Dancing: well, last night I danced with my husband's giant toy dinosaur.:p And I'm pretty sure hubby & I slow-danced without music on, on our anniversary last week - not long ago, anyway. :)
Siblings: Nope, none. Lonely. :(
Always wished I had an older brother. . .any guys out there want to adopt a little sister?

This is a hard thing to answer without getting all woo woo on everyone, but has a lot to do with longing, what the Germans describe as Sehnsucht. I get glimmers of this kind of longing when I listen to great music or see great art, sit on a cushion meditating or make love. It's as though all these things are pointing to something else. My mind calls it Love. I want to wake up to that more and more each day.

Aw sweetie, ya can get as Woo Woo as ya want with us - me, I'm ALL about the Woo Woo.
I wonder. . .I think I experience the same thing you describe. . .hard to know if we are feeling the same thing, but it might be. Beautiful sentiment. But for me, also painful.

Cats/dogs - dogs definitely, when the 2 cats are gone - although I love them - no more cats
Favorite day of the week - any day I can sleep in, I love my every other Friday off and Saturdays
has anyone asked this yet = Favorite smell?? (horses, ocean, Romance Silver - for men but it smells yummy on my GF.)

GREAT THREAD!!!
What a list is right! I feel like I can hardly keep up...the pace seems like it's now at the snowball stage. Woe to those just being introduced to it!
"What would you change" could come very close to "what do you regret". And even though I have no regrets that I can think of, this is what I would change: I would have plucked up my courage and not gone to Evangel College where I was 'safe' but unchallenged in matters of faith and as a musician. To be blunt: I didn't learn what I needed to know at Evangel in both areas, but then, being something of an autodidact, I eventually found my Way. And I also would have come out as an openly gay man at a much younger age- say early 20's rather than late 20's. The time when I could have been exploring Relationship and growing as a person was instead spent all pent up and filled with way too much anxiety and fear.

Ok, here it goes:
What is your guilty pleasure?
(Sex is not a valid answer for this question, to those of you whose minds prefer the gutter:p )
My answer: Little Debbie (or one of those snack companies) makes these little cakes called "Fudge Rounds" that I can't resist! The dollar store next to my job sells them and I'll buy a pack of 8 for $1 and keep the box either in my car or in my locker at work so I can have one or two whenever and not share :o ... yes, it's horrible of me, I know, but that's why it's my own little guilty pleasure.

Omigosh, Mia, me too!!!!!!! First had the thought when I was about 7. I also thought I wouldn't be the one to start it, b/c I probably wouldn't know how, but that I would be good as a central volunteer when someone else started it. So like you, total WHEEEE! moment when I discovered someone had started Soulforce a couple years ago. Now, how to actually get concretely involved. ?
I still wish I could be involved in activism/making change for our community on a full-time basis, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards for me. :( I always feel shuffled aside whenever I try to find out how I can do so. After decades of trying, I have finally about given up on that dream. :(
So I putter around this forum instead. :p

There are many things I enjoy more than eating salty foods, but - that's the only one I can think of that I ever feel guilty about. :D

worst-tasting thing? hmm.....
hard to think of something I hated so much. I guess we could count that I hate flan - mostly because of the texture. I had a friend's father make some and give my family a whole bunch to take home because I pretended to like it, but it was so oily and jiggly , but not in the good jiggly way that Jello is. Flan... BLEH!! My disgust with flan has run itself into a distaste for custard in general.
Name something you did that you're proud of:
I jumped off a bridge in Ecuador, suspended by a special rope that let me swing back and forth under it. It was crazy and I was too scared to do it until my little brother did and then I thought "well if he can, I can, too" and I did!
Vanessa White

New questions:
Prefer romantic dinner at home or intimate restaurant?
what color hair and eyes do you have?
Ethnic background of family?
I would prefer romance at home, or other person's home, so you have privacy, dont get rushed through your meal, can hold hands, etc. if you want;
I have dark brown hair and hazle eyes
I am a Heinz 57 mix of ethnicities, including Scottish, German, and French, but what I most identify with is Native American on my mother's side- Poarch Band Creek Indians, that hail out of Alabama. My mom is about 1/4 and is actually registered officially with the tribe!

My tattoo is on the outside of my right ankle. It is two Mandarin characters that mean "the ancient one is within" I got it the day before I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy along with two other friends who were also converting.
Yes my dog takes up most of the space in my bed, but also we always talk and snuggle right before we go to sleep and as soon as we wake up in the morning. So it is our "special" time together.

Owwww! Dash!!!!! Sorry 'bout the ouch today. :'(
Scars: Aye. One long one extends from beneath my left breast, under the shoulder and to the spine in back. Heart surgery as a toddler. Also a round scar on my left ribcage where they inserted a tube. I used to think the marks made me physically repulsive. :'( But that wasn't true. :) Lovers have stroked it telling me they're thankful the surgery saved my life.  :)
A little scar on the wrist from when my hand went through a glass door. And a small one below the kneecap from a fall onto a tiny rock that lodged in a bit.

Prefer romantic dinner at home or intimate restaurant? Home.
Ethnic background of family? Hungarian, Pennsylvania-Dutch.
sugar/salt: a little of both.....though I understand a lot of both is not a good thing: Japanese health, which was once more salt oriented, has been ravaged by the introduction of sugar. Causes heart disease it seems. At least for them.

Spring/Fall: Fall.
give/receive: There is nothing like a great massage. Though find myself bringing home flowers often.
Angels/miracles: Angels- once had a past-life regression and found myself talking to an angel.

Carnival ride: A few weeks after I met my husband we took the carousel ride in Central Park along with the kids and laughed and laughed.

Duct tape/Scotch: Duct
Candy/Soda: Neither. Water or Wine for me. (New Question here perhaps?)
Church?: Not at the moment. Like Dash I sang in church professionally for many years which, at least for me, gave me a peculiar perspective. Hubby is an organist and I go with him occasionally to his church and sing myself silly. Anglican hymns can still make me cry...it's the tunes more than the words at times. I sit on my 'cushion' twice a day and miss occasionally and try not to fuss about that. Better not to force such things.
Any scars? On the back of my head. I fell down a flight of steps as a kid and cracked my head open. A week later I did it again and had to be sewn back up. Same doctor each time.
New Question: Sci-Fi or C-Span?

I once let myself be talked into appearing onstage in a show at Lincoln Center in a dress and heels with two leggy chorus girls on either side. Might this suffice for an embarassing disclosure? (I actually had a great time. My female colleagues were jealous of the 45 minutes of makeup I got and the stage crew...well...let's just say there was some interesting energy flying around. Oh...I had a blonde Marilyn Monroe wig from another production called Marilyn Monroe: The Opera. The director was in the original production of La Cage as one of les girls. He lent me his shoes: size 11. You can't make this stuff up. )

Uh, I really don't think. . .
. . .the things I can think of that I've done that I would consider outrageous are simply not things I'm willing to post on a public forum. But I'm sure some people have a different definition of outrageous.
Like, in my performing career I've had to do some outrageous things onstage. Simulated sex in orgy scenes, things like that.
but the worst was in a chorus of Faust, we were to hold in a "freeze" position for several minutes, and I was directed to balance on a chair in a spread-eagle straddle position, facing the audience, then lean my head back over the backrest while a male chorus member stuck his tongue out and held it an inch from my open mouth. Of course, not only did I have to hold this position for about 3 painful minutes, they costumed me in a titty-popping bustier (hot pink) to make my cleavage abnormally gigantic, and on my bottom half, FLOURESCENT GREEN LACE KNICKERS. All of this with long golden blonde hair strewn over the back of the chair and across one breast. I looked like something out of an 1880s porn photo. Only in flourescent colors.

When you come outside and play- you go for broke! That's pretty hilarious!
Isn't being onstage fun?!
A partcular fond memory of mine  is appearing in Harvey Milk (the opera) and 'cruising' the rambles and trying to pick up to a tenor friend (who has a talent for cracking me up). A later scene had a us storming through doors in very bag drag yelling "Out of the bars and into the streets!" and then a quick change to a sparkle-y blue (and very scratchy) tube top and marching across the stage twirling a baton. I had nightmares of losing my grip and beaning someone in the orchestra.

Oh Daniel, You got me beat! A sparkly blue tube top and a baton? Oh yes, that trumps my pink & green slut pose.
Stagings - for some reason, all the choruses I sang in, I tended to be assigned the "slut" bits - mounting and kissing Tom Rakewell in a brothel, the straddle thingy already described, others. . .same production of Faust had me sliding down the steep raked stage on one knee to mount a soldier lying face up downstage. I've also simulated interesting things on a 10-inch salt-shaker (strange director:rolleyes: ).
I've also had 2 episodes of clothing falling off during performances. After a sarong-style blouse popped open in front of 200 audience members revealing my see-through lace bra (which thank goodness at least matched my ensemble :) , despite not hiding anything strategic:() I was told I could make it in porn. Oh gee, thanks.

BTW Daniel, forgot to ask - how is the Harvey Milk opera? I think I've heard it doesn't work too well as an opera. But can't remember.

BTW Daniel, forgot to ask - how is the Harvey Milk opera? I think I've heard it doesn't work too well as an opera. But can't remember.
One wants to be nice, but in a word: awful! Merthinks the composer didn't have a sufficient grasp on certain matters like orchestration, which was thick and muddy. It was a chore to 'hack' through, both musically and dramatically. The piece started with Harvey's murder, which may have worked in films like The Letter and Pscyho, but is this case removed the only tension in the story. The work didn't do what any story of this type should do: soar!
Hey! I've always wanted to sing The Rakes Progress! I love Stravinsky. What a great great great composer....hard to sing but worth the effort. You lucky girl! I'm jealous! You ain't go me beat by a long shot!

Playing catch up!
Sci-Fi or C-Span: Neither? MSNBC for news, esp on the east coast in the early AM
Pink or Blue: No - Purple & Green!
Wine- Red or White:On occasion a nice Cabernet
Favorite actor/actress:Actors - Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix - Actress, well not necessarily for acting talent but I could watch Jessica Alba for hours...
Favorite class or classes in school:Chemistry although I had no concept o algebra! Cooking because our group consisted of the only dudes in cooking and my best friend - we were awful but had a blast!
Are you a take action type, or more behind the sceens:Um, definitely action!
Comic Strip:Batman closely followed by Aquaman - I married neither!
True Love: My current partner - now realize I've never had true love before except for God
Many friends or few:I have many friends, and a few very close long time buddies
Where do you live:Sacramento California
What do you do for fun in your area:Go to San Francisco! Hiking, birdwatching, backpacking, family & friends, pets, "horse around - with my horse!" - all with my partner
What colors to you wear a lot:Black seems to be the dominant theme, but my sweetie is always trying to get me in colorful attire
What is your favorite drink:Water & iced tea
How many kids do you have(if any):Travis - 8, Dottie - 6, Kitty Mou - 12 and Puddin - 12
How many pets do you have See above!
Art and Crafts:I write poetry and song lyrics, occasional jewelry making (beads), I love to draw horses, that's about as crafty as I get
Boxers of briefs: Well, all of the above depending on my mood and a few other things!
What outrageous thing have you done? I asked my partner to dance a slow one with me, on our first 'date' - well it started off as a friendly christmas party and ended up at the gay bar where I asked her to dance - the look on her face was priceless. That actually wasn't all that outrageous considering my personality. I did go skinny dipping once in the river with some crazy friends...and tons of people around - my name was called all night (this isn't a moment I would enjoy reliving by the way!)
Breakfast: very often I like lunch and dinner type foods - spaghetti an pizza are the best! Otherwise, traditional breakfast would be ham, potatoes and biscuit & gravy with fresh squeezed OJ

In 1959 I stole all the marshmallow peeps from my brother's Easter basket.
In 1965 I stole Jimmy McCrany's bike and rolled it into the creek.
In 1969 I wrote "Lacky is a queer" on the school hallway bulletin board.
In 1971 I dropped a hand full of rocks down the college library book return shoot.
