Once someone becomes infected with a herpes virus, the virus never leaves your body. After the first outbreak, the virus moves through the skin cells to nerve cells. The virus stays from the nerve cells forever. But it really usually just stays right now there. In this stage, the virus is considered to be dormant, or asleep. But it really can become active once more.
