1. Search for GLBT people in your city in your age range.
I'm 28, so I search for 18-30.

2. ADD them all as friends.
This can take awhile unless you have high speed internet.

3. Write a short BLOG entry saying that you are inviting all the GLBT people in your area as friends so you can let them know about SOCIAL/Political/Religious/Community Service/etc. events in your city.

4. Post a BULLETIN introducing yourself and the fact that you will occassionally be posting events and articles that people might want to know about.

5. Get event lists from your church, HIV organizations, political groups, social/party/networking groups. Once a week, send out a WEEKLY UPDATE. (also post it on your blog.)

6. When something URGENT happens send out a special bulletin. Also post it on your blog. Encourage people to email you about special events.

I just used the above system to promote a free HIV testing day... and the response was HUGE! They had hour++ waits! Many people came because of the myspace post.

So far, everyone's results that I know (including mine) are all negative(good). I also sent a followup message to everyone and letting them know I was available to talk to them if their results were positive(bad).

I always kind of shied away from things like myspace, because I kind of see a lot of it as attention-seeking for the bored, but maybe I'll make one so I can post stuff on it. Not now though. Going to this Episcopal church I found on TOHR down the street pretty soon. So maybe I'll post about that later or something.

I know what you mean Britt. I thought it was kind of pathetic at first... but then I realized that alot of my friends that I hardly get to talk to are on there, including ones I havn't seen in about 4 years or more. It's weird but I like being able to finally get in contact with everyone!:love:

I finally put a background image on my page, changed the fonts, etc. Don't know if I'll keep that, or go w/ something else, but I like Pink. Obviously. I still can't think of something I'd want as a url though.

Depends on whether you want it to be fixed (like mine), or to move when you scroll (most people don't want that on spaces like myspace). Either way, pick what you want. I can just post the code here or email it to you tomorrow after work (I'm going to sleep pretty soon). Or maybe when I get bored at work.

Fixed... but I couldn't figure out how to get this picture that I have on my computer onto myspace(background)...it says you can upload from a computer and stuff but I don't think it gave the option to load it from your own files...

You can't do it that way. You need to host it somewhere, like imageshack.us or photobucket.com (both are free. I use imageshack). Then you'll have a url to stick in the code (you'd want the direct url).

Just FYI, for myspace users, make sure your flash plugin is up to date. There's a worm spread by infected pages at myspace.

I was messing with it today. I was trying to get a background with myspace editor. it worked once, but you could see the background through my pic. after that, I just wasn't able to get it to work right.

I don't know if you meant like mine (just added you), or if you meant you see through the actual picture. If it was like mine, you probably just copied a code from "myspace editor" for the boxes to be transparent. Otherwise, I don't know. Your boxes aren't transparent now in any case.

Anyway, woo myspace. I've had it for a week, & have already had to deny about 15 spam friend requests from what I think are porn websites (female, no less).
